What is Snow Buddies About?
The Buddies' Big Adventure
The movie starts with five cute Golden Retriever puppies. They are called the Buddies and live in Fernfield, Washington. They are having a great time with their new families. One day, they play hide-and-seek in the park. Budderball, one of the puppies, spots an ice cream truck. He sneaks inside for a treat!
The other Buddies try to get him out. But then, they all get stuck inside the truck. The truck takes them on a long trip to Ferntiuktuk, Alaska.
Meeting Shasta and Talon
When they arrive in Alaska, the Buddies meet Shasta. Shasta is a Siberian Husky puppy. His 11-year-old owner, Adam Bilson, wants to win the big Alaskan sled dog race. He wants to win because of something that happened to his father. The Buddies decide to help Shasta reach his dream. They also hope to get to the airport, which is at the race's finish line.
The puppies face a problem. Shasta's parents are not there to teach them how to be snow dogs. Luckily, Shasta convinces a wise old Alaskan Malamute named Talon to help. Talon is a legend. He taught Shasta's father how to be a great sled dog. Now, Talon agrees to teach the Buddies.
Training for the Race
Shasta introduces Adam to his new sled team. Adam is very excited. He starts building a new sled for his hard-working puppies. Talon watches proudly as the team trains. They learn to work together.
However, some older huskies in town are not happy. They try to discourage the Buddies. They tell the puppies that Shasta's parents were lost in a race. This happened when the ice broke beneath them.
The Northern Lights and the Race Begins
One night, Talon takes the puppies to a mountain lake. They see the beautiful Northern Lights. Talon tells Shasta that he knows everything he needs. He says Shasta can be a great leader, just like his father.
The next morning, Adam and the puppies enter the race. Everyone laughs at them. They think a boy and puppies cannot win. The sheriff explains the rules. He reminds them how dangerous the race is.
Challenges on the Trail
The puppies begin their journey. Jean George III is the champion from last year. He is a tricky French musher. He cheats by damaging other sleds. He also pushes other mushers off their sleds. Soon, only Adam and Jean George are left in the race.
News arrives about a terrible blizzard. But it's too late to stop the race. The racers have already passed the halfway point.
Rescue and Reunion
Meanwhile, the Buddies' parents, Buddy and Molly, follow them to Alaska. A Himalayan cat named Miss Mittens tells them where the puppies are. A Saint Bernard dog named Bernie tells them about the race. The sheriff in Alaska calls Deputy Dan in Fernfield. He tells him the Buddies are safe.
A dangerous blizzard hits. Adam and the team find shelter in an igloo. An Inuit person helps them. They meet Jean George again. Adam gets hurt during the storm.
Adam soon recovers. Francois and Philippe, Jean George's lead dogs, get into trouble. The ice breaks under them. Jean George keeps going. He leaves his dogs behind! Adam and the puppies start a rescue. Shasta is scared because of what happened to his parents. But they pull Francois and Philippe out of the icy water.
Jean George continues the race without saying thank you. Francois and Philippe realize their owner left them to be lost. They owe him nothing. They owe everything to Shasta and the Buddies for saving them. So, they decide to stop running. They refuse to move. This makes Jean George lose the race!
Victory and Goodbyes
Adam and the Buddies win the race! The Buddies reunite with Buddy and Molly. Jean George scolds his dogs for making him lose. The dogs chase him around the Arctic.
The Buddies say goodbye to Shasta and Adam. They promise to stay in touch. All seven Buddies fly home. Their owners are waiting for them. Budderball and his owner, Bartleby, watch the news. Bartleby is amazed when he sees the Buddies, Adam, and Shasta winning the race.
That night, Buddy and Molly sit on their roof. They talk about their puppies' adventures. They wonder if their puppies will ever stop exploring. The movie ends with Adam and a grown-up Shasta. They are hiking in Alaska with five new adult huskies. Talon reminds everyone that "life may lead you where you least expect, but have faith, and you'll know exactly where you were meant to be."
