Solon is a city in Johnson County, Iowa, United States. It is part of the Iowa City area. Solon is located close to Lake MacBride State Park and the bigger cities of Coralville and Iowa City. In 2020, about 3,018 people lived there.

History of Solon
Solon was first planned out in 1840. It was named after a famous leader from ancient Athens named Solon. He was a lawmaker and a poet. It's interesting because the local high school's sports teams are called the Spartans. Sparta was a big enemy of Athens, where Solon lived! Just north of town, you can find the Stone Academy, which is a historic building.
