Sonic Generations is an exciting platform video game. It was made for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Microsoft Windows, and Nintendo 3DS. The game came out in November 2011.
Sonic Team developed Sonic Generations, and Sega published it. This game was a special way to celebrate the 20th birthday of the very first Sonic the Hedgehog game.
In Sonic Generations, you get to control two different versions of Sonic the Hedgehog. One is Classic Sonic, and the other is Modern Sonic. Your main goal is to collect all the powerful Chaos Emeralds. You must also stop a mysterious bad guy from making a "time hole." This time hole could change history in a very bad way!

How to Play Sonic Generations
In this game, you travel through levels from past Sonic the Hedgehog games. Each level has different parts and challenges.
Meet Classic and Modern Sonic
You play as two versions of Sonic. Each has a unique style:
- Classic Sonic: This version plays like the old 2D Sonic games. You run and jump from left to right.
- Modern Sonic: This version mixes 2D and 3D gameplay. It feels like the newer Sonic games. You can run fast in 3D areas and switch to 2D for platforming.
Game Levels and Challenges
Every level in Sonic Generations is split into different parts. Each level has three main stages and two boss fights.
The stages are:
- Classic Stages: These are pure 2D levels. They bring back the feel of the original Sonic games.
- Dreamcast Stages: These levels are inspired by games from the Sega Dreamcast era.
- Modern Stages: These are the 2D/3D mixed levels. They showcase the fast-paced action of recent Sonic games.
For each level, both Classic Sonic and Modern Sonic have their own "act" to play. Besides the main acts, there are also 10 extra challenges. These challenges might include racing against an opponent to the finish line.
