The Solanum adscendens, also known as the sonoita nightshade, is a type of plant. It grows naturally in many parts of the Americas.
This plant has been found in countries like Mexico, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua in Central America. It also grows in South American countries such as Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, and Paraguay. In Argentina, it's found in Corrientes, and in Brazil, it grows in Bahia and Rio Grande do Sul. In the United States, you can find it in Texas and Arizona. The sonoita nightshade has also started growing in parts of Africa, even though it's not originally from there.
How Sonoita Nightshade Grows
The sonoita nightshade is a special plant because it mostly "self-pollinates." This means it can make seeds using its own pollen, without needing pollen from another plant.
Flowers and Seeds
This plant has very tiny white flowers. After the flowers bloom, they turn into small fruits. These fruits have a unique way of spreading their seeds: they explode! When the fruit bursts open, it throws the seeds out, helping the plant spread to new places.
