Soyuz programme
(Crewed missions)

The Soyuz MS-13 was a special space mission that took three astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS). It launched on July 20, 2019. This date was very important because it was exactly 50 years after the first people landed on the Moon during the Apollo 11 mission!

The Soyuz MS-13 spacecraft was the 142nd flight of a Soyuz vehicle. It carried a Russian commander, an American flight engineer, and a European flight engineer. These three people became part of the Expedition 60 crew living and working on the ISS.

Meet the Crew Members

This mission had a team of three skilled astronauts. They were from different countries, working together in space.

Moving the Spacecraft

Sometimes, spacecraft need to move to a different parking spot on the ISS. This is called a relocation.

Why Relocate?

On August 26, 2019, the Soyuz MS-13 spacecraft moved from one part of the ISS to another. It moved from the back of the Zvezda module to the Poisk module.

This move was important because another Soyuz spacecraft, Soyuz MS-14, needed to dock with the Zvezda module. The Soyuz MS-14 had trouble docking the first time because of a problem with a signal on the Poisk module. Moving MS-13 cleared the way for MS-14 to try again.

The last time a Soyuz spacecraft was moved like this was in August 2015, during the Soyuz TMA-16M mission.
