The Speaker of the Lok Sabha is the person in charge of the lower house of the Parliament of India. The role of the Speaker is the same as in other countries which use the Westminster system of government.

The speaker is elected in the very first meeting of the Lok Sabha after the general elections. He or she is chosen from the members of Lok Sabha. The speaker serves for a term of five years. The current speaker is Sumitra Mahajan. She is the Member of parliament from Indore(M.P.).
