He was a key leader of the Shiv Sena political party. He was also one of the few Indians to be elected to all four main types of legislatures (law-making bodies).

Early Life and Education

Manohar Joshi was born on December 2, 1937. His birthplace was Nandavi in the Raigad district of Maharashtra. He studied hard and earned two important degrees. He received his Masters of Arts (MA) and a law degree (LLB) from Mumbai University.

In 1964, he married Anagha Joshi. They had three children: a son named Unmesh, and two daughters named Asmita and Namrata. His granddaughter, Sharvari Wagh, became an actress. She started her acting career in the 2021 film Bunty Aur Babli 2.

Starting Kohinoor Institutes

After finishing his law degree, Manohar Joshi first worked for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). This is the local government body for Mumbai. However, he soon decided to start his own project.

He founded the Kohinoor technical and vocational training institute. His idea was to help young people learn useful skills. These skills included being electricians, plumbers, or repairmen for TVs and scooters. He also offered training for photographers.

Soon, Kohinoor grew very popular. He opened many branches in cities like Mumbai, Pune, and Nagpur. Later, he also got involved in construction and other businesses. He also started the Kohinoor Business School. He also founded the Kohinoor-IMI School of Hospitality Management in Khandala.
