History of Spring City

Spring City was first settled in 1852. It was originally called "Allred Settlement." James Allred led the first group of settlers, and many of them were his family members.
The first settlement was left empty in 1853. This happened because of conflicts with the Ute people, who were the native people of the area. The Ute people included the San Pitch Utes, which is where Sanpete County gets its name.
The village was settled again in 1859. This time it was called "Springtown." William Black, George Black, and Joseph S. Black helped re-establish the town.
Danish Settlers Arrive
Starting in 1853, leaders encouraged Danish immigrants to move to Sanpete County. Many of them came to live in the Allred Settlement after it was re-established in 1859. By the mid-1860s, people called the north side of town "Little Copenhagen" or "Little Denmark."
Spring City was also a place where fighting happened during the Black Hawk War. This was a conflict between settlers and Native American tribes.
Recent History
As of 2018, the mayor of Spring City was Jack Monnett. He was the only mayor in the United States from the Constitution Party.
