St. Regis, also known as Saint Regis, is a small community in Mineral County, Montana. It is a special area that the government tracks for population, called a census-designated place (CDP). In 2020, about 313 people lived there.
A long time ago, a traveler named Pierre-Jean De Smet explored this part of Montana. He named the local river after a friend, a Jesuit priest. The town later took its name from this river. The first post office in St. Regis opened in 1896. In the early 1900s, the Northern Pacific Railway built a train track through the town. This helped the local economy grow a lot.
