History of Stafford City
Stafford was started in 1878. The city, like Stafford County, was named after Lewis Stafford. He was a soldier who died in the Civil War.
In 1882, a strong tornado hit Stafford and destroyed it. But the people worked hard and rebuilt the city within one year. Stafford officially became a city in 1885.
The old railroad depot was built in 1911 for the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe railway. It was almost torn down in 2016. However, people from the Stafford community signed a petition at the last minute to save it.

Stafford is located about 92 miles (148 kilometers) northwest of Wichita. It is found along U.S. Route 50.
