Staples is a city located in the state of Minnesota, in the United States. It's special because it sits across two different areas called Todd County and Wadena County. In 2020, about 2,989 people lived there.

Discovering Staples' Past

Staples started as a small community around a place where wood was cut, called a sawmill. This settlement was first known as Staples Mill. In 1889, the area was officially mapped out and named.

The city got its name from two important businessmen, Samuel and Isaac Staples. They were involved in the lumber industry, which means they worked with wood and trees.

Traveling to and from Staples by Train

The Amtrak train station is quite busy. More than 5,000 people each year get on or off the Empire Builder train here.

The train heading west from Chicago and St. Paul arrives after midnight. It then continues towards Fargo, Seattle, and Portland. The eastbound train from Fargo arrives around 4 a.m. It heads towards St. Paul for a daytime arrival and Chicago for an afternoon arrival.
