Stefan Reuter (born October 16, 1966) is a famous German football player and manager. He used to play as a defender or midfielder. He is currently the general manager for the Bundesliga club FC Augsburg.
During his time as a player, Stefan Reuter was part of the West Germany national team that won the 1990 FIFA World Cup. He also played for the German national team that won UEFA Euro 1996. He achieved a big win in the 1996–97 UEFA Champions League with Borussia Dortmund.

Club Career Highlights
Stefan Reuter was born in Dinkelsbühl, Germany. He began his football journey with a local team, TSV 1860 Dinkelsbühl. In 1982, he joined 1. FC Nürnberg. He played for them first in the 2. Bundesliga and later in the top league, the Bundesliga, starting in 1985. He played 100 games and scored 10 goals for Nürnberg. Sometimes, he played as a right-sided midfielder.
Playing for Bayern Munich
In 1988, Stefan Reuter moved to Bayern Munich. He played 95 games in the Bundesliga for Bayern and scored four goals. With Bayern, he won the Bundesliga title two times, in the 1988–89 and 1989–90 seasons.
Time with Juventus and Borussia Dortmund
After his success at the 1990 World Cup, Reuter almost moved to Liverpool. However, he decided to play for Juventus in Italy from 1991 to 1992. He soon returned to Germany and joined Borussia Dortmund.
With Borussia Dortmund, Reuter had a very successful period. He won the Bundesliga three times: in 1994–95, 1995–96, and 2001–02. A major highlight was winning the UEFA Champions League in 1996–97. His team also reached the final of the UEFA Cup twice, in 1993 and 2002. Stefan Reuter played 307 games for Dortmund and scored 11 goals in the Bundesliga before he stopped playing in 2004.
International Career
Stefan Reuter also had a great career playing for Germany's national teams.
Youth National Teams
In 1984, Reuter was part of the German team that won the U-16 European Championship. This tournament was held in Germany. His team won the final against the Soviet Union with a score of 2-0.
He also played for the U-18 national team and the U-21 national team. He even scored two goals in his first U-21 game against Sweden in 1985.
Playing for the Senior National Team
Stefan Reuter played his first game for the senior national team on April 18, 1987. It was a 0-0 draw against Italy. He played a total of 69 games for the national team. He scored his first international goal in December 1987 against Brazil, helping his team get a 1-1 draw.
He was a key player when Germany won the 1990 FIFA World Cup and the Euro 1996. In Euro 1996, he scored a penalty in the semi-final shootout against England. However, he could not play in the final game.
In 1992, Reuter became the first player in European Championship history to be substituted twice in one game. He came on as a substitute, but then had to leave the field due to an injury just seven minutes later.
His last game for Germany was on June 15, 1998, against the USA at the 1998 World Cup. Germany won that game 2-0. For being part of the 1990 World Cup-winning team, he received the Silver Laurel Leaf, a special award in Germany.
Managerial Career
After retiring as a player, Stefan Reuter moved into management roles in football.
From 2004 to 2005, he worked at Borussia Dortmund helping with sponsorship. He then became the team manager for TSV 1860 Munich from 2006 to 2009.
On February 27, 2012, he became the general manager of FC Augsburg. Under his leadership, FC Augsburg achieved a major milestone. They qualified for the UEFA Europa League for the very first time in their history during the 2014/15 season.
Stefan Reuter's contract with FC Augsburg is set to continue until June 30, 2026.

Personal Life
When he was young, Stefan Reuter was also a talented athlete in track and field. He won local championships in long jump and was a Bavarian champion in cross country running. This strong athletic background helped him a lot as a football player. His fast sprints on the field earned him the nickname "Turbo"!
Reuter is part of the board for the Stiftung Jugendfußball (Youth Football Foundation). This foundation was started in 2000 by him, Jürgen Klinsmann, and other German national team players. Stefan Reuter was the last active professional player from the German team that won the 1990 World Cup.
