Stefan Reuter (born 16 October 1966) is a German football expert. He used to be a player who played as a defender or midfielder. Since 2012, he has been the general manager for the Bundesliga club FC Augsburg.
During his time as a player, he was part of the West Germany national team. This team won the 1990 FIFA World Cup. He also played for the Germany team that won UEFA Euro 1996. He also won the 1996–97 UEFA Champions League with Borussia Dortmund.

Stefan Reuter's Football Journey
Stefan Reuter was born in Dinkelsbühl, Germany. He started his football journey with a local team called TSV 1860 Dinkelsbühl. In 1982, he joined 1. FC Nürnberg. He played for them in the 2. Bundesliga and later in the top league, the Bundesliga. He played 100 games for Nürnberg and scored ten goals. Sometimes, he played as a right-sided midfielder.
In 1988, he moved to Bayern Munich. He played 95 games in the Bundesliga for Bayern. He helped them win the Bundesliga title in the 1988–89 and 1989–90 seasons.
After West Germany won the World Cup, Stefan Reuter had a chance to join Liverpool. However, he decided to move to Italy instead. From 1991 to 1992, he played for Juventus. But he soon returned to Germany.
He joined Borussia Dortmund in 1992. With Borussia, Reuter won the Bundesliga three times. These wins were in 1994–95, 1995–96, and 2001–02. He also helped them win the UEFA Champions League in 1996–97. The team also reached the final of the UEFA Cup twice. This happened in 1993 and 2002. He played 307 games for Dortmund in the Bundesliga. He scored 11 goals before he stopped playing in 2004.
Playing for Germany
In 1984, Stefan Reuter was part of the German team that won the U-16 European Championship. This tournament was held in Germany. His team won the final against the Soviet Union with a score of 2-0.
He also played for the U-18 national team and the U-21 National team. He even scored two goals in his first U-21 game. In 1987, he played in the military world championships in Italy. His team finished in second place.
On 18 April 1987, Reuter played his first game for the senior national team. This was a 0-0 draw against Italy. He played a total of 69 games for the national team. He scored his first international goal in 1987 against Brazil.
He later won the 1990 World Cup. He also won the Euro 1996. In Euro 1996, he scored a penalty in the semi-final shootout against England. However, he could not play in the final due to a suspension.
In 1992, Reuter made history in the European Championship. He was the first player to be substituted as a substitute. He came on for Karl-Heinz Riedle but got injured seven minutes later. He then had to be replaced by Michael Schulz.
His last game for Germany was on 15 June 1998. It was a 2-0 win against the USA in Paris. For being part of the 1990 World Cup winning team, he received the Silver Laurel Leaf award.
After Playing: A New Role
After retiring as a player, Stefan Reuter worked in football management. From 2004 to 2005, he worked for Borussia Dortmund. He helped with sponsorship.
From 2006 to 2009, Reuter was the team manager for TSV 1860 Munich. He later became the sole managing director for a few months. In 2009, he left the club.
On 27 February 2012, he became the general manager of FC Augsburg. Under his leadership, FC Augsburg achieved something special. They qualified for the UEFA Europa League for the first time in their history. This happened in the 2014/15 season. Reuter's contract with FC Augsburg is set to continue until June 30, 2026.

Beyond the Field
When he was young, Stefan Reuter was also a talented athlete. He won championships in long jump. He was also a Bavarian champion in cross country running. This athletic background helped him a lot as a football player. His fast sprints earned him the nickname "Turbo."
Reuter is part of the board for the Stiftung Jugendfußball. This is a youth football foundation. It was started in 2000 by him, Jürgen Klinsmann, and other German national team players. Stefan Reuter was the last active professional player from the German team that won the 1990 World Cup.
