Stephanie Rose McGovern (born 31 May 1982) is a well-known English journalist and television presenter. She hosted her own show, Steph's Packed Lunch, on Channel 4 from 2020 to 2023. Before that, she was a main business presenter for BBC Breakfast and often helped host the whole show.

Early Life and Education
Steph McGovern was born in 1982 in North Shields, England. She grew up in Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire. Her dad, Eamonn McGovern, is an artist.
Early Achievements
When Steph was 16, she won an Arkwright Engineering Scholarship. This scholarship is for students who show great potential to become leaders in engineering. From 1998 to 2000, she studied Maths, Physics, Design Technology, and Business Studies at Macmillan Academy.
At 19, she was named "Young Engineer for Britain." During a year off before university, called a gap year or Year in Industry, Steph worked at Black+Decker. She helped them save £150,000 a year by making their production methods better for a tool called the Leaf Hog. She even won an award for her work.
University Studies
Steph went to University College London. In 2005, she earned a degree in science communication and policy. Later, in 2013, Teesside University gave her an honorary doctorate. This is a special award given to people who have achieved great things.
Career in Television
Steph McGovern started her career at the BBC. She began with work experience on a show called Tomorrow's World. Soon, she got a part-time job as a researcher.
Working at the BBC
Steph became the main producer for financial news on the Today programme on Radio 4. She then became the lead producer for business news on the BBC's main news shows, like the One, Six, and Ten O'Clock news. She worked closely with the business editor, Robert Peston.
Steph also presented shows on BBC Radio 5 Live, such as Wake Up to Money and On the Money. In 2010, she became the main business presenter for BBC Breakfast. She also often presented the whole show. For younger viewers, she hosted Pocket Money Pitch on CBBC.
Since 2016, she has co-presented Shop Well for Less with Alex Jones on BBC One. In 2018, Steph presented a six-part BBC series called Made in Great Britain. She also joined the presenting team for the consumer show Watchdog in 2016. She has been a guest and host on Have I Got News for You.
In 2018, Steph shared a funny story about meeting Donald Trump in 2012. She said he made a comment about her, and she humorously replied that she had heard "better lines" in a club in Middlesbrough.
Moving to Channel 4
In October 2019, Steph left BBC Breakfast to join Channel 4. She was set to host a new show, Steph's Talks, from Leeds. However, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, she started presenting The Steph Show from her own home in March 2020. The show later launched in September 2020 as Steph's Packed Lunch.
In 2021, Steph was made an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering. This was to recognise her strong support for engineering and practical skills.
In December 2021, she was featured in the BBC Four series Walking with..., where she walked in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales.
Steph was a contestant on The Masked Dancer in 2022. She danced as 'Tomato Sauce'. She also hosts events for businesses.
She co-hosts a podcast called The Rest Is Money with her friend Robert Peston. In 2024, Steph announced her first acting role in a BBC comedy called Smoggie Queens. In 2025, she will be a contestant on the Netflix reality show, Celebrity Bear Hunt.
Personal Life and Hobbies
Steph McGovern is a former champion Irish dancer. She still goes to international competitions to help coach other dancers.
In 2019, Steph announced that she and her partner were expecting their first child. Their daughter was born in November 2019. They live in North Tyneside.
