Stephanie Rose McGovern, born on May 31, 1982, is a well-known English journalist and TV presenter. She hosted a show called Steph's Packed Lunch on Channel 4 from 2020 to 2023. Before that, she was a main business presenter for the BBC's BBC Breakfast show, and sometimes she even hosted the whole program.

Early Life and Education
Steph McGovern was born in 1982 in North Shields, Tyne and Wear, England. She grew up in Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire. Her father is an artist, and she is an only child.
Becoming a Young Engineer
In 1998, when she was starting her advanced studies, Steph won an Arkwright Engineering Scholarship. This scholarship is given to students who show great potential to become leaders in engineering. From 1998 to 2000, she studied Maths, Physics, Design Technology, and Business Studies at Macmillan Academy.
When she was 19, Steph was named "Young Engineer for Britain" by the Young Engineers Clubs. During a gap year before university, she worked at Black+Decker. There, she helped improve how they made their "Leaf Hog" tool. Her work saved the company about £150,000 a year! She later received an award for her important contribution to the business.
University Studies
Steph attended University College London. In 2005, she earned a degree in science communication and policy. Later, in 2013, Teesside University gave her an honorary doctorate, which is a special award recognizing her achievements.
Steph's Career in Television
Steph McGovern started her career at the BBC with work experience on the Tomorrow's World program. She then got a part-time job as a researcher.
Working in News
She became a main producer for financial news on the Today program on Radio 4. After that, she became the lead producer for business news on the BBC's main news shows, like the One, Six, and Ten O'Clock news bulletins. She worked closely with the business editor, Robert Peston.
Steph has also presented radio shows like Wake Up to Money and On the Money on BBC Radio 5 Live.
Becoming a TV Presenter
In 2011, Steph became the main business presenter for BBC Breakfast. She often co-hosted the entire show. She also presented Pocket Money Pitch for CBBC, a channel for children.
From March 2016, she co-presented Shop Well for Less with Alex Jones for BBC One. In 2018, Steph presented a six-part BBC series called Made in Great Britain.
Steph joined the BBC Watchdog team in autumn 2016. This show helps people with consumer issues. She also co-presented Can Britain Have a Pay Rise? for BBC Two. She has been both a guest and a host on the comedy news show Have I Got News for You.
Moving to Channel 4
Steph went on maternity leave from BBC Breakfast in September 2019. In October, it was announced that she would be leaving the BBC to join Channel 4. She was expected to host The Steph Show from Channel 4's new base in Leeds. However, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, she started presenting The Steph Show from her own home in March 2020. The show later launched as Steph's Packed Lunch in September 2020.
In 2021, Steph was recognized as an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering. This honor was given for her strong support of engineering and practical skills.
In December 2021, Steph was featured in the BBC Four series Walking with..., where she walked in Littondale in the Yorkshire Dales.
Recent Appearances and Projects
Steph was a contestant on the second series of The Masked Dancer in 2022. She performed as 'Tomato Sauce'. She also hosts events for different industries.
She hosts The Rest Is Money podcast with her friend Robert Peston.
In September 2024, Steph announced she joined the cast of the BBC comedy Smoggie Queens. This was her first acting role.
In 2025, Steph was a finalist on Netflix's reality competition show, Celebrity Bear Hunt.
In February 2025, Steph won £125,000 for charity when she was a contestant on a Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? Celebrity Special.
Personal Life
Steph McGovern is a former champion Irish dancer. She still goes to international competitions to help coach other dancers.
She has dated both men and women. In November 2019, Steph gave birth to a baby girl. She lives in North Tyneside.
