Stevin L. "Hedake" Smith (born January 24, 1972) is a former American professional basketball player. He is also known for a difficult situation during his college career in 1994.

Who is Stevin Smith?

Stevin Smith was a talented basketball player. He played as a shooting guard and was known for his skills on the court. He played for many teams both in the United States and in other countries.

Early Life and Nickname

Stevin Smith was born in Dallas, Texas. He was the only son of Eunice Smith. From a young age, he was a great high school basketball player. He later played college basketball at Arizona State University. His unique nickname, "Hedake," came from his mother. She used to call him "Headache" because he was a very energetic child. She shortened it to "Hedake" for a special license plate.

College Basketball Career

Stevin "Hedake" Smith played point guard for Arizona State University from 1991 to 1994. He was chosen twice for the All-Pac-10 team, which means he was one of the best players in his college league.

However, during his time in college, Stevin was involved in a serious mistake. He made bets on his own games, which is against the rules. He admitted to taking money to play in a way that would affect the game's final score. This is called "point-shaving." For his actions, he faced consequences and had to take a break from playing basketball for a while.

Despite this, Stevin Smith still holds some impressive records at Arizona State. He made the most three-point shots and attempted the most three-point shots in the school's history. He also shares the record for the most steals with another great player, Fat Lever.

Playing Professional Basketball

After college in 1994, Stevin Smith tried to join an NBA team but did not succeed at first. So, he decided to play basketball in other countries.

NBA Experience

During the 1997 NBA season, Stevin Smith got a chance to play in the NBA. He signed two short-term contracts with the Dallas Mavericks. He played in eight games, scoring a total of 14 points. This was his only time playing in the NBA.

Playing Overseas

After his time in college and a break from playing, Stevin Smith returned to professional basketball in 2000. He played for many teams around the world. He played in Spain for Somontano Huesca. He also played in the Philippines, Turkey, and France. Later, he played in the Israeli League and for Dynamo Moscow in Russia. In 2006, he joined Legea Scafati in the Italian Serie A league. He continued his professional career until 2008.

After Basketball

After his basketball playing career ended, Stevin Smith started helping young people. He became the Vice President of the N.O.W. Program. This program helps mentor young people in the Dallas area.

Today, Stevin Smith also works with EPIC Global Solutions. He shares his experiences with college student-athletes. He teaches them about the dangers of gambling and how to make good choices.
