Stevin L. "Hedake" Smith (born January 24, 1972) is an American former professional basketball player. He is known for his college basketball career and later for a difficult situation that affected his time playing at Arizona State University. Smith played as a shooting guard and point guard during his career.

Early Life and Nickname
Stevin Smith was born in Dallas, Texas. He was the only son of Eunice Smith. From a young age, he showed great talent in high school basketball. He played for Arizona State University under head coach Bill Frieder.
Smith's unique nickname, "Hedake," came from his mother. She used to call him "Headache" because he was a very energetic and lively child. When she wanted to get a personalized license plate, she had to shorten the spelling to "Hedake."
College Basketball Career
Stevin "Hedake" Smith played as a point guard for Arizona State University from 1991 to 1994. He was a standout player and was chosen twice for the All-Pac-10 team. This honor means he was recognized as one of the best players in his college conference.
Smith also holds two important records for Arizona State. He made the most three-point shots and attempted the most three-point shots in the school's history. During his college years, a challenging situation arose involving some games in 1994. This event led to a difficult period for Smith.
Professional Basketball Journey
After finishing college in 1994, Stevin Smith did not join an NBA team right away. Instead, he decided to play basketball overseas. His first professional team was Somontano Huesca in Spain during the 1994–95 season.
He also played for the Grand Rapids Mackers in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA). In 1995, he was named to the CBA All-Rookie Team, which recognizes the best new players in the league. Over the next four years, Smith played for various teams in the Philippines, Turkey, France, and back in the CBA. He helped the Sioux Falls Skyforce win a CBA championship in 1996. In 1997, he was selected for the All-CBA Second Team.
NBA Experience
During the 1997 NBA season, Smith got a chance to play in the NBA. He signed two short-term contracts, each lasting 10 days, with the Dallas Mavericks. This was his only time playing in the NBA. He played in eight games, scoring a total of 14 points.
Return to International Play
After a break from basketball, Smith returned to his professional career in 2000. He went back to Europe, playing for three different teams in France from 2001 to 2003. He also played in the Israeli League in 2004. For two seasons, until 2006, he played for Dynamo Moscow in Russia. In the 2006–07 season, Smith joined Legea Scafati in the Italian Serie A league. He continued playing professionally until 2008.
Life After Playing Basketball
After his basketball career, Stevin Smith became involved in helping young people. He became the Vice President of the N.O.W. Program. This program is a mentoring initiative designed to support young individuals in the Dallas area.
More recently, Smith has been working with EPIC Global Solutions. This organization focuses on educating student-athletes at NCAA colleges. He shares his own experiences to help students understand the importance of making good choices, especially concerning gambling awareness.
