History of Stromsburg
Stromsburg was settled a long time ago in Nebraska. A group of Swedish settlers came here in the 1860s. They had lived in Illinois for a few years before.
These settlers were led by Lewis Headstrom, who helped people buy and sell land. They thought the area looked a bit like their old home in Sweden. So, they named their new town Stromsburg, after a part of Ockelbo, Sweden.
Early Buildings and Bricks
By the 1880s, Stromsburg had two brick factories. Many buildings made from these local bricks are still standing today. These include:
- The Viking Center, which used to be an Opera House and is now a community center.
- The Cornerstone Bank.
- Two businesses on the east side of the town square.
- Several homes.
You can still see brick streets around the city square in Stromsburg. A brick Carnegie library was built in Stromsburg in 1918.

The downtown area of Stromsburg has a town square in its center. This square is a park with green lawns and old trees. Festivals and events are often held here. In the middle of the square, there is a two-story Swedish-style brick building. It has colorful paintings and the words "Välkommen" on it, which means "Welcome" in Swedish.
