Stuart Armstrong (born on March 30, 1992) is a Scottish footballer. He plays as a midfielder for the Major League Soccer club Vancouver Whitecaps. He also plays for the Scotland national team.
Armstrong started his career with Dundee United in 2010. He played almost 150 games for them. In February 2015, he moved to Celtic. There, he helped his team win four Scottish league titles. They also won two domestic "trebles," which means winning three major trophies in one season. After that, he joined Premier League club Southampton in June 2018.
Stuart Armstrong played for Scotland's under-19 and under-21 teams. He made his first game for the senior national team in 2017. He played for Scotland in the UEFA Euro 2020 tournament. In 2013, he was named the SFWA Young Player of the Year. He has also been chosen for the PFA Scotland Team of the Year three times.

Early Life and Interests
Stuart Armstrong was born in Inverness, Scotland. He went to school at Hazlehead Academy in Aberdeen. When he was growing up, he looked up to the famous footballer Gianfranco Zola.
Starting His Football Journey
Armstrong played for youth teams like Dyce Boys Club. He also played for Inverness Caledonian Thistle's youth team. In July 2009, he signed his first professional contract with Dundee United.
Playing for Clubs
Time at Dundee United
Stuart Armstrong played his first game for Dundee United in November 2010. He came on as a substitute in a game they won 1–0. His manager, Peter Houston, praised him for his good play.
He scored his first goal for the team in December 2011. It was in a 2–2 draw against St Mirren. He felt more confident after scoring that goal.

In September 2012, Armstrong signed a new three-year contract with Dundee United. He scored his first goal of the 2012–13 season in November. He was named the Clydesdale Bank Premier League Young Player of the Month for February. He also won the SFWA Young Player of the Year award for that season.
Armstrong signed another contract extension in December 2013. He hoped to play in England one day, but he was happy at Dundee United for then. He was nominated for the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year award in April 2014. He was also picked for the 2013–14 Premiership PFA Scotland Team of the Year.
His last game for Dundee United was in January 2015. He played 150 games and scored 22 goals for the club.
Moving to Celtic
In February 2015, Stuart Armstrong joined Celtic. He moved along with his teammate Gary Mackay-Steven. Armstrong scored a goal in his very first game for Celtic. It was a 3–0 win against Partick Thistle in February 2015.

He also played his first game at Celtic Park and in a European competition in February 2015. This was in a 3–3 draw against Inter Milan in the UEFA Europa League.
In the 2016–17 season, Armstrong scored 17 goals. Celtic won a "domestic treble" that year, meaning they won three major trophies. Celtic won another treble in the 2017–18 season. However, Armstrong had some injuries that year. In June 2018, he moved to the Premier League club Southampton.
Playing for Southampton
Armstrong signed a four-year contract with Southampton in June 2018. He played his first game for them in August 2018. It was a 0–0 draw against Burnley in the Premier League. In November 2018, he scored his first two goals for Southampton. This was in a 3–2 game against Fulham.
In January 2020, he scored his first goal of the 2019–20 season. This was in a 2–1 win against Leicester City. The Premier League was stopped in March 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. When games started again in June 2020, Armstrong scored in a 3–0 win against Norwich.
On January 1, 2021, Armstrong signed a new contract with Southampton. This contract would last until the summer of 2024. In February 2022, he scored a goal in an FA Cup game against Coventry City. This goal was voted the best goal of that round.
He scored his first goal of the 2022–23 season in October 2022. It was in a 1–1 draw with Arsenal. In the 2023–24 season, he scored his first goal in October 2023. This was in a 1–0 win against Stoke City. He got injured in April 2024 and was released by Southampton at the end of the season.
Joining Vancouver Whitecaps
On September 3, 2024, Stuart Armstrong joined the MLS team Vancouver Whitecaps. He signed a two-year contract. He played his first game for the Whitecaps on September 7. A week later, he scored his first goal for the team in a 2–0 win.
Playing for Scotland
Stuart Armstrong played for Scotland's under-19 and under-21 teams. He was first called up to the senior national team in May 2013.
He made his full international debut on March 26, 2017. This was in a 1–0 win against Slovenia. The national team manager, Gordon Strachan, said it was "the best Scotland debut I have ever seen."
In October 2020, he had to leave the Scotland squad. This was because he tested positive for COVID-19.
In May 2021, he was chosen for Scotland's team for the UEFA Euro 2020 tournament. He played in all three of Scotland's group matches.
On March 26, 2024, Armstrong played his 50th game for Scotland. This was in a friendly game against Northern Ireland. He was also part of Scotland's team for the UEFA Euro 2024 tournament in Germany.

In 2014, Stuart Armstrong was studying for a law degree. He was taking classes through the Open University in his free time.
