Sufi Abu Taleb (Arabic: صوفي أبو طالب, romanized: Ṣūfī Abū Ṭālib; January 27, 1925 – February 21, 2008) was an important Egyptian politician. He was the Speaker of the People's Assembly from 1978 to 1983. After President Anwar Sadat was assassinated in 1981, Sufi Abu Taleb became the acting leader of Egypt for eight days. This happened because the Egyptian Constitution said the Speaker would take over if the president's job became empty. He then stepped aside for Hosni Mubarak, who was the Vice President.
