Sukhinder Singh Cassidy, born Sukhinder Singh in 1970, is a leader in the world of technology. She is known for being a successful businessperson and for starting new companies.

Currently, she is the CEO of Xero. This company, based in New Zealand, makes software to help businesses with their accounting. Before this, she was the president of StubHub, a popular ticket marketplace.

Sukhinder has worked at many big technology and media companies. These include Google, Amazon, and News Corp. She also helped start companies like Joyus, a video shopping platform, and theBoardlist.

Early Life and Education

Sukhinder Singh Cassidy was born in 1970 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Her parents were from India and followed the Sikh religion. When she was two years old, her family moved to Ontario, Canada.

She grew up in St. Catharines, Ontario. In 1992, she graduated from the University of Western Ontario. She earned a special degree in business administration from the Ivey School of Business.

Sukhinder grew up in a family that loved starting businesses. Both of her parents were doctors. They ran their own medical practice for 30 years.

Career Journey

Starting in Business

Sukhinder Singh Cassidy began her career in investment banking. She worked at Merrill Lynch in New York. In 1994, she moved to the company's London office. After that, she worked as an analyst for Sky Broadcasting.

In 1998, Sukhinder moved to Silicon Valley, a famous tech area. She joined a new online shopping company called Junglee. She was in charge of finding new business partners. Later that year, Amazon bought Junglee. Sukhinder then joined Amazon. She helped set up the first version of Amazon's marketplace for sellers.

In 1999, Sukhinder helped start a financial services company called Yodlee. She was a senior vice president for sales and business development until 2003. Yodlee became a public company in 2014.

Working at Google

In 2003, Sukhinder joined Google. She was the first general manager for Google Local and Maps. She also helped get content for Books, Scholar, Shopping, and Video. She helped launch Google Local and Maps with a team of engineers.

In 2004, she became the head of Google's international business. This included Asia Pacific (APAC) and Latin America (LATAM). She became a vice president in 2005 and then president of these markets in 2008. Sukhinder is known for helping Google grow in 103 countries.

In 2009, Sukhinder left Google. She became a CEO-in-residence at Accel Partners, a company that invests in new businesses. In 2010, she was named CEO of Polyvore.

Founding Joyus

In October 2010, Sukhinder had an idea for a new way to shop online. She wanted to use videos to sell products. She started her company, Joyus, in January 2011 in San Francisco, California. Joyus officially launched to the public in August 2011.

Sukhinder raised money from investors to start Joyus. She was the CEO and then chairman until 2017. Joyus was later bought by another company in September 2017.

Helping Women in Tech

In May 2015, Sukhinder wrote an open letter. It was called "Tech Women Choose Possibility." In the letter, she asked the tech community to help more women succeed in the industry. She wanted them to use the many talented women already working in tech. Many female entrepreneurs and investors signed the letter with her.

Sukhinder started theBoardlist on July 15, 2015. This was the first project of her #ChoosePossibility initiative. TheBoardlist is an online platform. It helps connect CEOs looking for board members with women who are recommended for these roles. When it started, theBoardlist had over 600 women listed. These women were recommended by 50 investors and CEOs in the tech industry.

By November 2017, theBoardlist had helped over 100 women get positions on company boards.

Sukhinder Singh Cassidy was president of StubHub from April 2018 until May 2020.

Leading Xero

On November 10, 2022, Sukhinder Singh Cassidy was named the new CEO of Xero Ltd. Xero is a technology company from New Zealand. It provides cloud-based accounting tools for small and medium-sized businesses. Sukhinder started at Xero on November 28, 2022, and officially became CEO on February 1, 2023.

In March 2023, Sukhinder announced some changes at Xero. About 15% of the company's jobs were removed.

Personal Life

Sukhinder Singh Cassidy is married to Simon Cassidy. He is also from Canada and used to manage investments. They have three children. The family lives in the San Francisco Bay Area.

In May 2025, Sukhinder joined the ownership group for the Toronto Tempo.
