Sumvitg (pronounced 'SOOM-vitch') is a town, also called a municipality, located in the Surselva Region within the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland. It was once known by its German name, Somvix, until 1986.

Sumvitg was first mentioned in historical records in the year 1175. Back then, it was known as in Summovico. This shows that the area has been settled and recognized for a very long time.

Sumvitg covers a large area of about 101.8 square kilometers (39.3 square miles). A big part of this land, about 24.8%, is used for farming. Forests cover another 26.8% of the area.
Only a small portion, 1.3%, has buildings or roads. The rest of the land, about 47.1%, is made up of natural features like rivers, glaciers, or mountains.

The municipality of Sumvitg is special because it sits on both sides of the Vorderrhein river valley. It also includes the Val Sumvitg, which is a beautiful valley.
The area includes the main village of Sumvitg. It also has several smaller villages, called hamlets, such as Surrein, Rabius, Laus, and Compadials. You can also find many farmhouses scattered across the landscape.
Above the hamlet of Laus, you'll find Lag da Laus, which is a lovely lake. To the south of Val Sumvitg stands Piz Nadéls, a notable peak in the region.
