People often call her Colours Swathi. This nickname came from a popular Telugu TV show called Colours, which she hosted on Maa TV.

Swathi started her acting career with smaller roles. She then became a main actress in the Tamil film Subramaniapuram (2008). Her role in the Telugu movie Ashta Chamma (2008) was a big success. For this film, she won the Filmfare Award and the Nandi Award for Best Actress. Besides acting, she also lends her voice for characters in films (called a dubbing artist) and sings songs for movies (a playback singer). Some of her other popular films include Swamy Ra Ra (2013) and Karthikeya (2014).

Early Life and School

Swathi Reddy was born in Vladivostok, a city in the far east of Russia. At the time, it was part of the Soviet Union. Her father was an officer in the Indian Navy. He was training to be a submariner in the Soviet Union when Swathi was born. The Russian doctor who helped deliver her named her ‘Svetlana’. Later, her mother changed her name to 'Swathi'. She has an older brother named Siddharth.

Swathi's family later moved to Mumbai and then to Visakhapatnam in India. She spent most of her childhood there. She went to St. Francis De Sales’ School in Visakhapatnam. When she was in 11th grade, her family moved to Hyderabad. She then studied Biotechnology at St. Mary's College, Hyderabad.

After taking her college entrance exams, Swathi started working in television when she was 17. She hosted a show called Colours. The show was very popular, so it was extended and moved to a better time slot. She ended up hosting more than 150 episodes!
