Sweden is a town located in Monroe County, New York, in the United States. It is part of the larger Rochester metropolitan area, New York. This town is found on the western edge of Monroe County.
The famous Erie Canal runs through the northern part of Sweden. Also, Route 19 is an important highway that goes from north to south through the town. In 2020, about 13,244 people lived in Sweden.

History of Sweden
This area was once part of a larger land section known as the Triangle Tract. People started settling here before the year 1806.
How Sweden Became a Town
The town of Sweden was officially created by the New York State Legislature in 1813. This decision helped divide the western part of the county into three new towns: Bergen, Sweden, and Murray.
Sweden was established in 1814 from a part of the town of Murray. The very first town meeting in Sweden happened on April 5, 1814.

Lake View Cemetery is a special place in Sweden. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2009. This means it is recognized as an important historical site.
