Murray is a town in Orleans County, New York, United States. It is located on the eastern side of Orleans County. In 2010, about 4,988 people lived there. The town is northwest of the City of Rochester.

History of Murray, New York
Murray was first settled around 1809. The town was officially created in 1808. This happened before Orleans County was formed. At that time, Murray was part of Genesee County.
Over the years, parts of Murray were used to create new towns. These included Sweden in 1813 and Clarkson in 1819. Both of these towns are now in Monroe County. Later, Kendall was formed from Murray in 1837.
In 1850, the community of Holley became its own village. It separated from the town of Murray.
Geography of Murray
The town of Murray covers about 31.1 square miles (80.55 square kilometers). Most of this area is land. Only a small part, about 0.1 square miles (0.10 square kilometers), is water.
The eastern border of Murray is shared with the Town of Clarkson. Clarkson is located in Monroe County. This border is marked by New York State Route 272.
Several important roads and waterways pass through the town. The famous Erie Canal flows through Murray. Also, New York State Route 31, New York State Route 104 (known as Ridge Road), and New York State Route 387 are all found here.
