How Swisslion Group Started
The story of Swisslion Group actually begins with a company called Takovo. Takovo was founded in 1962 in Gornji Milanovac. Swisslion itself started later, in 1991.
For a long time, Takovo was owned by the government. It was one of the biggest industrial companies in the country. In 2004, Swisslion bought Takovo. After this, the two companies joined together and became known as Swisslion Takovo.
Factories in Serbia
Since the merger, Swisslion Takovo has important factories in Vršac and Gornji Milanovac, both in Serbia. The factory in Vršac mainly focuses on making all those delicious sweets.
The facilities in Gornji Milanovac are very large, covering more than 30,000 square meters. Here, they produce ready-made meals, pasta, soups, and fruit juices.
Growing Across the Region
Swisslion Group also expanded its business into other countries.
Expansion in Croatia
In 2008, Swisslion Group bought a Croatian company called Euro Food Markt in Sisak. This helped them become stronger in the Croatian market.
New Factory in Bosnia and Herzegovina
In 2010, a new factory for sweets was opened in Trebinje, Bosnia and Herzegovina. This was a big investment for the company. Later, in 2011, Swisslion Takovo put even more money into this factory to add new production lines for their confectionery products.
In 2012, Swisslion Takovo decided to move the production of "Jaffa cakes" from their factory in Sisak, Croatia, to the one in Trebinje, Bosnia and Herzegovina. They made sure to say they were not leaving Croatia, and their Sisak factory would keep making other products.
Production in North Macedonia
Swisslion Takovo also has production sites in North Macedonia, specifically in Resen and Skopje. In March 2012, they opened a new production unit in the town of Resen.
