Company History
Early Beginnings
The story of Swisslion Group starts with a company called Takovo. Takovo was founded in 1962 in Gornji Milanovac. Swisslion itself was started later, in 1991. Takovo was a very large company in the country. It was owned by the government during the time of SFR Yugoslavia.
Joining Forces: Swisslion and Takovo
In 2004, Swisslion and Takovo became one company. This happened after Swisslion bought Takovo. The new company was named Swisslion Takovo.
Since then, Swisslion Takovo has its main factories in Serbia. These are located in Vršac and Gornji Milanovac. The factory in Vršac mostly makes sweet treats. The facilities in Gornji Milanovac are very large. They produce ready-made meals, pasta, soups, and fruit juices.
Growing in Other Countries
Between 2008 and 2012, Swisslion Group grew even more. In 2008, they bought a Croatian company called Euro Food Markt. This helped them become stronger in the Croatian market.
In 2010, a new factory for sweets opened in Trebinje. This factory cost a lot of money to build. The company also invested more money in this factory in 2011. This helped them add new production lines for more sweet products.
Expanding in North Macedonia
From 2012 to 2017, Swisslion Takovo continued to expand. They opened new production sites in North Macedonia. These sites are in Resen and Skopje. In March 2012, they opened a new production unit in Resen.
Around 2012, there were reports about moving the production of "Jaffa cakes." These cakes were made in the Sisak factory in Croatia. The company decided to move this production to their factory in Trebinje, Bosnia and Herzegovina. However, Swisslion Takovo confirmed they would not leave Croatia. Their Sisak factory would continue to make other products.
Recent Developments
In February 2017, Swisslion Group bought a wine company. This company was called "Vršački vinogadi." Later in March 2017, Swisslion Group decided to give one of its companies, "Swisslion industrija alata," to the Government of Republika Srpska. This was due to some financial issues related to taxes. The ownership of this company has been unclear since then.
