Sydney Loren Bennett (born April 23, 1992), known professionally as Syd, is an American singer and songwriter. She first became known as a member of the hip hop group Odd Future. Later, in 2011, she helped create the band The Internet. Syd has also released her own music. Her first solo album, Fin, came out in 2017. She released her second album, Broken Hearts Club, in 2022.

Who is Syd?

Syd is a talented artist who sings, writes songs, DJs, and produces music. She has been active in the music world since 2009. Her unique style blends different types of music like R&B and hip hop.

Early Life and Music Beginnings

Syd grew up in a family that loved music. Her mom wanted to be a DJ, and her uncle, Mikey Bennett, is a famous reggae producer from Jamaica. This musical background inspired Syd a lot.

She started wishing she could create her favorite songs. That's when she began writing her own music. She only started singing on her own songs after she really got into writing.

When Syd was 14, she built a small music studio in her home. She learned about sound engineering before she started producing music. Her brother is Travis "Taco" Bennett, who is also a musician.

For part of high school, Syd went to Palisades Charter High School. She felt a bit lonely there. So, she moved to the Hamilton Music Academy, which she found more welcoming.

Her Musical Journey

Syd began making music while still living with her parents. Her older brother, Ty, gave her the stage name "Syd" when she was a kid. She started using the name again when she joined Odd Future.

Joining Odd Future

Many of Odd Future's first songs were recorded at Syd's house. This place was sometimes called "The Trap." Syd worked as a DJ and producer for the group. She was a key part of their sound. In 2014, Syd performed with Odd Future for Eminem at Wembley Stadium.

Starting The Internet

In 2011, Syd co-founded the band the Internet. Their first album, Purple ... Ladies, was released in the same year. The band quickly gained fans for their smooth R&B sound.

Solo Music and New Albums

Syd also started releasing her own music. On January 13, 2017, her first solo song, "All About Me," came out. It was produced by Steve Lacy, who is also in The Internet. Her second solo song, "Body," was released soon after.

These songs were part of her first solo album, Fin, which was released on February 3, 2017. Later that year, on September 7, 2017, Syd released a shorter collection of songs called an EP, titled Always Never Home.

Syd has also worked with other artists. She was featured on Lil Uzi Vert's album Eternal Atake in 2020. She also appeared on Zayn's album Nobody Is Listening in 2021.

In 2021, Syd released new songs like "Missing Out" and "Fast Car." Her song "Cybah," featuring Lucky Daye, came out in March 2022. She then announced her "Broken Hearts Club Tour."

Syd also contributed to Beyoncé's album Renaissance in 2022. She was credited on the song "Plastic Off the Sofa." She also appeared on Duckwrth's song "Ce Soir."

On April 8, 2022, Syd released her second solo album, Broken Hearts Club. This album started as a collection of love songs. However, Syd's own relationship ended while she was making it. This led to the album having a mix of songs about both love and heartbreak.
