Syed Ahmed (born March 6, 1943 – died September 27, 2015) was an Indian politician and author. He was a member of the Congress Party.
Syed Ahmed became the Governor of Manipur on May 16, 2015. Sadly, he served only four months before he passed away on September 27, 2015. During his time as Governor, an important law called the Manipur Tenants, Visitors and Migrant Workers Bill, 2015, was passed.
He died from cancer in Mumbai, India, at the age of 72. He was still serving as a state governor when he passed. He is remembered by his wife, son, and daughter.
Early Life and Education
Syed Ahmed was a very educated person. He earned two master's degrees. One was in Hindi and the other in English. He also had a special degree called a doctorate in Urdu.
He was a talented writer too. He wrote a book about his own life called Pagdandi se Shahar Tak. Some of his other books include Maktal se Manzil, Kafas se Chaman, and Jange-Azaadi Me Urdu Shayari.
His Political Journey
Syed Ahmed started his political career in 1977. He joined the Indian National Congress party. He was elected five times to the Vidhan Sabha, which is like a state assembly. He represented the Nagpada area in Mumbai. He also worked as a state minister in Maharashtra.
In 2011, the Indian President, Pratibha Patil, chose Syed Ahmed to be the Governor of Jharkhand. He took his oath of office on September 4, 2011. The Chief Justice of Jharkhand, Prakash Chandra Tatiya, officially swore him in.
Later, in May 2015, Dr. Syed Ahmed was moved to serve as the Governor of Manipur. He was sworn in on May 16, 2015, by the Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court, Laxmi Kanta Mohapatra.
