Syed Fakhruddin Ahmad (1889-1972) was an important Indian Muslim scholar. He was a teacher of Islamic studies and a leader. He served as the head of Madrasa Shahi. He was also the sixth President of Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind, a big organization of Muslim scholars. He taught about hadith (sayings and actions of Prophet Muhammad) at the famous Darul Uloom Deoband university.

About Syed Fakhruddin Ahmad
Syed Fakhruddin Ahmad started learning at a young age. His mother taught him the Quran, and older family members taught him Persian. When he was eight, he began studying Arabic grammar.
His Education and Learning Journey
He went to Madrassa Manba al-Ulum Gulaothi. There, he studied with a teacher named Majid Ali Jaunpuri. He then moved to Delhi with his teacher. In Delhi, he learned about different sciences in other schools.
In 1908, he joined Darul Uloom Deoband, a very important Islamic university. His teacher, Mahmud Hasan Deobandi, asked him to study the final class, called Daura Hadith, in two years instead of one. This shows how dedicated he was to his studies.
His Teaching Career
After finishing his studies, Ahmad started teaching at Darul Uloom Deoband. Later, in 1921 (1339 AH), he moved to Madrasa Shahi. He taught there for 48 years!
He became the principal of Madrasa Shahi. He taught important books like Sahih al-Bukhari and Sunan Abu Dawood. These books contain many hadith. A huge number of students, 1161, studied Sahih al-Bukhari with him between 1957 and 1963.
In 1957, after the death of Hussain Ahmed Madani, Ahmad became the senior hadith professor (Shaykh al-Hadith) at Darul Uloom Deoband. One of his well-known students was Abdul Ghani Azhari.
His Leadership Role
Syed Fakhruddin Ahmad was also a leader in the Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind organization. He served as its vice-president twice. This was during the time when Hussain Ahmad Madani was the president.
In December 1959, after Ahmad Saeed Dehlavi passed away, Syed Fakhruddin Ahmad became the president of Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind. He led the organization until his death.
His Final Years
Syed Fakhruddin Ahmad passed away on April 5, 1972. He was 82 or 83 years old. His funeral prayer was held in Moradabad and led by Muhammad Tayyib Qasmi.
