Sylvan Beach is a small village in Oneida County, New York. It is located on the southeastern side of the Town of Vienna. This village is about 22 miles west of Rome. In 2010, about 897 people lived in Sylvan Beach.

History of Sylvan Beach
Early Native American Life
Long ago, before Europeans arrived, Native American tribes lived in the Sylvan Beach area. They especially liked the area for its good fishing spots. Many old tools and items, called artifacts, have been found near Oneida Lake. These help us learn about the early people. The Oneida and Onondaga tribes, part of the Iroquois Confederacy, settled around Oneida Lake.
Founding and Growth
The community of Sylvan Beach started around 1840. In the 1800s, public transportation like trains and ferries made it easy to visit. This helped Sylvan Beach become a popular vacation spot. The village officially became a village in 1971. The Sylvan Beach Union Chapel is an important old building. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2009.

Sylvan Beach is located at 43°12′16″N 75°43′35″W / 43.20444°N 75.72639°W.
The village covers about 0.8 square miles (2.1 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, about 0.7 square miles (1.8 square kilometers). A small part, about 0.04 square miles (0.1 square kilometers), is water.
Sylvan Beach is on the eastern shore of Oneida Lake. It is also next to the Erie Canal. In the 1820s, the Erie Canal made the village a good shipping port for the entire lake.

Sylvan Beach has a mile-long beach where you can relax. There's also a bandstand for music and many restaurants and shops. You can find a casino and hotel-style villas to rent. The village also has an amusement park, camping spots, and marinas for boats.
Since it's on the eastern shore of Oneida Lake, many people come here for boating and fishing. Summer is the best time to visit, with lots of events and places to eat. Some fun summer events include:
