Tales from Shakespeare facts for kids
Tales from Shakespeare is a special English book for young people. It was written in 1807 by a brother and sister, Charles Lamb and Mary Lamb. Their goal was to make the famous plays by William Shakespeare easier to understand. They wanted to keep as much of Shakespeare's original language as possible.
Mary Lamb wrote about the funny plays (comedies). Charles Lamb wrote about the sad plays (tragedies). They worked together on the introduction to the book.
For a long time, Mary Lamb's name wasn't on the book's cover. It only appeared on the seventh edition in 1838.
Even though this book was made for young readers, some parts might still be a bit tricky today. But it's still a great way to learn about Shakespeare's stories. It stays very true to the original plays. This makes it super helpful when you start reading Shakespeare's plays yourself.
