A Look at Tallaboa Saliente's History
Tallaboa Saliente has a long and interesting history! Before Europeans came to Puerto Rico in the late 1400s, Tallaboa was an important village. It was led by special leaders called caciques, who were much loved by their people.
Puerto Rico Becomes a U.S. Territory
Later, in 1898, something big happened. After the Spanish–American War, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States. This was part of a deal called the Treaty of Paris of 1898. Because of this, Puerto Rico became an unincorporated territory of the United States.
Population Changes Over Time
In 1899, the United States government took a census (which is like a big count of all the people). This census showed that Tallaboa Saliente and a nearby barrio called Cuebas had a combined population of 940 people.
