Taperoo's History

The name Taperoo was first used around 1920 for a railway stop. This stop was located near a brick factory. The name "Taperoo" comes from an Aboriginal word. It means "calm."

A part of Taperoo was once called "Silicate." The City of Port Adelaide officially suggested the name Taperoo in 1945. It was formally accepted in 1951. In 2007, a small part of Taperoo became part of Largs North. In 2009, its eastern border was moved to the middle of the Port River.

A post office called Osborneville opened around 1922. It changed its name to Taperoo in 1964. Later, in 1989, it became North Haven.
