Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2012 TV series, season 4) facts for kids

The fourth season of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles started on Nickelodeon on October 25, 2015. Nickelodeon had already decided to make a fourth season on June 17, 2014.

This season was the only one that aired over two regular TV seasons. It was also the only season where the two-part ending episodes aired in separate weeks. The last four episodes first aired in South Korea in late 2016.

Story of the Season

After Earth is destroyed, the Turtles, April, and Casey are saved by the Fugitoid. He uses his spaceship, the Ulixes, to go back in time six months. Their mission is to stop the Triceraton Empire, led by Emperor Zanmoran. The Triceratons want to gather three parts of a powerful device called the Heart of Darkness. If they succeed, Earth will be lost forever.

While in space, the Turtles fight new bad guys. These include Lord Vringath Dregg from the planet Sectoid and the bounty hunter Armaggon. They even meet their older versions from the 1987 TV show and their enemy Krang.

Even with all their efforts, the Triceratons manage to collect all three pieces of the Black Hole Generator. The Turtles return to Earth and team up with their past selves. They warn Splinter before Shredder can defeat him. They also stop the Heart of Darkness from exploding and defeat the Triceratons. The Fugitoid destroys the Black Hole Generator near the Triceraton fleet, causing a huge explosion. The past versions of the Turtles, April, and Casey then leave Earth with the past Fugitoid. The head of the present Fugitoid reactivates in Earth's orbit.

During their space adventures, April gets a piece of the ancient Aeon's mystical Sol Star. This star fragment has a lot of power and helps April make her psychic abilities much stronger. She also trains with the Fugitoid to control these new powers.

Weeks after the Triceraton invasion is stopped, April becomes a kunoichi (a female ninja). A witch named Shinigami arrives and is revealed to be Karai's friend. They plan to rebuild the Foot Clan and get rid of Shredder, who is still recovering from his last fight with Splinter. Karai and Shinigami have some ninjas, and the Foot Clan makes their Footbot army stronger with Elite Footbots. Other crime groups also try to take over the Foot Clan's territory.

The crystal fragment April received from the Aeons starts to have a bad effect on her. However, she eventually learns to control its power and breaks it. She apologizes for not realizing how much the Sol Star fragment was influencing her. She promises that she now understands how to control her strong psychic abilities on her own.

Oroku Saki uses a special mutagen to heal and becomes the Super Shredder. He wants to take back control of the Foot Clan from Karai. He also wants to finish off Splinter and the Turtles. He even injects more unstable mutagen into himself. He defeats Splinter, and Casey and April throw him into a garbage truck. But he survives and hunts the Turtles again. The Turtles decide to end their long fight once and for all. After many challenges, Leonardo finally defeats Shredder.

With Splinter's revenge complete and Shredder gone, the Turtles and their friends wonder what comes next. They know the Foot Clan isn't completely gone and there are still enemies out there. The heroes get ready for future challenges, knowing that Splinter is still with them in spirit.

How the Show Was Made

The Turtles from the 1987 TV series had a special crossover episode with the 2012 series Turtles. This episode was called "Trans-Dimensional Turtles." The 1987 Turtles had appeared before in a season 2 episode.

For this crossover, the original voice actors returned. Cam Clarke voiced 1987 Leonardo, Rob Paulsen voiced 1987 Raphael, Townsend Coleman voiced 1987 Michelangelo, and Barry Gordon voiced 1987 Donatello. Pat Fraley also came back to voice Krang from the 1987 series.
