The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are a team of mutant red-eared sliders. They are named after four famous Renaissance artists. They live in the sewers of New York City, where they train by day and fight crime as ninjas by night.
Leonardo
Leonardo is the brave leader of the Ninja Turtles. He is the oldest brother and works hardest at his ninja training with Master Splinter. Leo wears a blue mask and uses two ninjatō swords.
Raphael
Raphael is the hot-headed and strong member of the Ninja Turtles. He is the second-oldest brother. Raph wears a red mask and uses a pair of sais.
Donatello
Donatello is the super smart inventor and tech genius of the Ninja Turtles. He is the second-youngest brother. Donnie wears a purple mask and uses a bo-staff.
Michelangelo
Michelangelo is the funny and fun-loving member of the Ninja Turtles. He is the youngest brother. Mikey wears an orange mask and uses a pair of nunchucks. He also loves to give nicknames to other mutants.
Venus de Milo
Venus was one of five turtles who were exposed to the same mutagen that created the Ninja Turtles. Splinter accidentally left her behind. She was found by a shinobi magician named Chung I in Chinatown. He raised her in China and trained her in the art of Shinobi. Her original name was Mei Pieh Chi.
Jennika
Jennika was once a young fighter from the Foot Clan. After some tough times, she joined the Foot. Later, she started to change her ways after Splinter showed her kindness. When she was badly hurt, Leonardo shared his blood to save her, which accidentally turned her into a turtle!
Friends and Allies
Splinter
Splinter is the mutant rat sensei (teacher) and adoptive father of the Ninja Turtles.
In the 1987 cartoon, Splinter was originally Hamato Yoshi, a human ninja master. He was mutated into a brown rat along with the Turtles. He had rescued them after they were accidentally dropped down a storm drain in New York.
April O'Neil
April Harriet O'Neil is a brave and smart human friend of the Ninja Turtles. She first met them when they saved her from robot mousers in the sewers. She often helps the Turtles with things they can't do in public.
In the 1987 cartoon, April was a TV news reporter. The Turtles saved her from Shredder's gang, and she became their trusted ally.
In the 2012 cartoon, April is a teenager with special abilities. She became the Turtles' first human friend and was even trained by Splinter as a kunoichi (female ninja).
Casey Jones
Arnold Bernid "Casey" Jones Jr. is a vigilante who wears a hockey mask. He uses sports equipment like hockey sticks and golf clubs to fight crime. Casey had a difficult past involving a street gang. He became a close friend of the Ninja Turtles after meeting Raphael. He is sometimes aggressive but always fights alongside the Turtles.
Hamato Yoshi
Hamato Yoshi is a ninjutsu master whose story is connected to Splinter's. In some versions, he is Splinter before mutation. In others, he was Splinter's owner and teacher. He was a great warrior of the Foot Clan in Japan.

The Mighty Mutanimals are a team of mutant heroes who often help the Ninja Turtles.
Leatherhead
Leatherhead is a mutant American alligator and a powerful ally of the Ninja Turtles. As a baby alligator, he ended up in the sewers and was exposed to mutagen, turning him into a smart, humanoid form. He sometimes has a short temper but is a loyal friend.
Mondo Gecko
Mondo Gecko is a mutant green gecko and a skateboarding teenager. He is a close friend of Michelangelo. In some stories, he was a human skateboarder who mutated. In others, he was a baby gecko mutated in the sewers. He often joins the Mighty Mutanimals.
Ray Fillet
Ray Fillet (originally called Man Ray) is a mutant manta ray and a marine biologist. He became a mutant after being exposed to mutagen in the water. He often helps the Ninja Turtles with missions involving water or marine life.
Slash
Slash is a mutant common snapping turtle. He can be an enemy, ally, or even a "frenemy" of the Ninja Turtles, depending on the story.
In the 1987 cartoon, Slash was Bebop's pet turtle who mutated. He loved plastic palm trees!
In the 2012 cartoon, Slash was originally Raphael's pet turtle, Spike. He mutated and became very strong, sometimes working with the Turtles and sometimes on his own.
Wingnut and Screwloose
Wingnut and Screwloose are an alien or mutant bat and mosquito. They are allies of the Ninja Turtles. They come from Dimension X, a different universe. They became friends with the Turtles after realizing they weren't working for Krang.
Fugitoid
Professor Honeycutt is a scientist whose mind was transferred into a robot body after an accident. He is known as the "Fugitoid" (short for "fugitive android") because he is often on the run from armies who want his inventions. He is a very smart and helpful ally to the Turtles.
Renet Tilley
Renet Tilley is a young, sometimes clumsy, time traveler from the future. She is an apprentice to Lord Simultaneous, a master of time. Renet often uses her master's Time Scepter to travel through different time periods, sometimes accidentally bringing the Turtles along for wild adventures. She is a friend to the Turtles, especially Michelangelo.
Bad Guys and Villains
Foot Clan
The Foot Clan is an evil ninja organization. They are usually led by the Shredder and are the main enemies of the Ninja Turtles.
The Shredder
Shredder is the leader of the Foot Clan and the main enemy of the Ninja Turtles. Born as Oroku Saki in feudal Japan, he became a ninja master. He moved to New York and became "The Shredder," leading the Foot Clan in many criminal activities and fighting the Turtles. He is known for his sharp armor and fierce fighting skills.
Karai
Karai is a high-ranking member of the Foot Clan and Shredder's second-in-command. She is a skilled ninja and can be both an enemy and an ally to the Ninja Turtles, especially Leonardo.
Baxter Stockman
Baxter Stockman is a mad scientist and an enemy of the Ninja Turtles. He created the MOUSERS, small robot mousetraps, which he used for crimes. He often works for Shredder and sometimes turns himself into a cyborg or a mutant fly.
Bebop and Rocksteady
Bebop and Rocksteady are a mutant warthog and black rhinoceros. They were once human punks who worked for Shredder. He mutated them into their animal forms. They are strong but not very smart, and often cause trouble for the Turtles.
Tatsu
Tatsu is a tough Foot Clan warrior and Shredder's second-in-command in some versions. He is a skilled martial artist who trains Shredder's army. In the 2012 animated series, he is a blind swordsman.
Tokka and Rahzar
Tokka and Rahzar are a mutant alligator snapping turtle and gray wolf. They were created by Shredder to fight the Turtles. They often have childlike personalities, which can make them unpredictable.
Krang
Krang is an alien warlord from Dimension X. In some versions, Krang is a single alien brain. In the 2012 cartoon, they are a whole race called the Kraang who want to take over Earth.
Lord Dregg
Lord Dregg is a powerful alien villain who often tries to conquer Earth. He is a master of technology and leads an army of insect-like aliens.
Purple Dragons
The Purple Dragons are a street gang that often causes trouble in New York City. They sometimes work with the Foot Clan. They are known for their fights with the Ninja Turtles and Casey Jones.
Hun
Hunter "Hun" Mason is the strong leader of the Purple Dragons. He is a big, muscular man with tattoos. He is a recurring enemy of the Turtles and has a personal rivalry with Casey Jones. He was once very loyal to Shredder.
Rat King
The Rat King is a mysterious enemy of the Ninja Turtles. He has a strange ability to control rats with his mind. He often lives in sewers or abandoned places and sees himself as a king among the rats.
Bishop
Agent John Bishop is the leader of the Earth Protection Force (EPF). This group is dedicated to protecting Earth from alien attacks. In the 2003 animated series, he is a very old human who has survived for centuries. In the 2012 series, Bishop is an Utrom (a Kraang tribe member) who wants to protect Earth.
Triceratons
The Triceratons are a race of alien beings who look like humanoid Triceratops. They are often powerful warriors and recurring antagonists in the TMNT universe, sometimes trying to conquer Earth or other planets.

Ace Duck
Ace Duck was once a test pilot who mutated into a humanoid duck. He became the pilot of the Turtles' blimp in some stories.
Alopex
Alopex is a mutant Arctic fox. She was trained by Shredder but later turned against him and became an ally of the Turtles. She is a skilled fighter and often works with Raphael.
Armaggon
Armaggon is a mutant shark from the future. He is a bounty hunter and space assassin. He often teams up with other villains to fight the Turtles.
Bloodsucker
Exclusive to the Mirage Studio comics, Bloodsucker was a normal leech that mutated after sucking some mutagen from Raphael. This caused Raphael to temporarily de-evolve.
Conservation Corps
The Conservation Corps is a group of mutant animals who are ecological superheroes. They have elemental powers and are allies of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Firefly
Firefly is a mutant firefly with powers to control fire.
Green Horn
Green Horn is a mutant Indian rhinoceros with plant-based powers.
Sky Shark
Sky Shark is a mutant blue shark who can fly.
Stone Hedgehog
Stone Hedgehog is a mutant hedgehog with rocky skin who can throw rocks.
Water Buffalo
Water Buffalo is a mutant bison with powers to control water.
Doctor El
Doctor El is a witch doctor who was turned into a mutant elephant by Shredder. However, he sided with the Ninja Turtles instead.
Groundchuck and Dirtbag
Groundchuck and Dirtbag are a mutant bull and mole. They were created by Shredder and are enemies of the Ninja Turtles.
Herman
Herman is a mutant hermit crab who is a member of the Mighty Mutanimals. He was created by Old Hob.
Hothead
Hothead is a Samurai dragon ally of the Ninja Turtles. In the 2012 TV series, he is a demon named Kavaxas.
King Lionheart
King Lionheart was a Shakespearian actor who was turned into a mutant lion by Shredder. He also sided with the Ninja Turtles.
Mona Lisa
Mona Lisa is a mutant lizard.
In the 1987 cartoon, she was a human girl who mutated and became an ally of the Turtles, especially Raphael.
In the 2012 cartoon, Mona Lisa is an alien Salamandrian named Lt. Y'Gythgba. She becomes a close friend and love interest for Raphael.
Muckman
Muckman is a garbage mutant and an ally of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
In the 1987 cartoon, Muckman was a garbageman named Garson Greer who mutated.
In the 2012 cartoon, Muckman (Garson Grunge) mutated after being exposed to mutagen and falling into a dumpster. He can control garbage and has a sidekick, Joe Eyeball.
Joe Eyeball
Joe Eyeball is a small creature who is Muckman's sidekick. In the 2012 cartoon, he is Muckman's left eye that gained life.
Old Hob
Old Hob is a mutant cat with an eyepatch. He was originally a stray cat who was mutated at the same time as the Turtles. He later became the leader of the Mighty Mutanimals.
Pete
Pete is a mutant pigeon. In the 2012 TV series, he was an ordinary pigeon mutated by the Kraang. He helped April O'Neil's father and later became a member of the Mighty Mutanimals.
Pizza Face
Pizza Face is a pizza maker who mutated and gained control over pizza. He is an enemy of the Ninja Turtles, trying to turn them into pizza toppings.
Sally Pride
Sally Pride is a mutant lioness who appears in the IDW comics. She is a member of Old Hob's Mighty Mutanimals.
Scumbug
Scumbug is a mutant cockroach. He was an exterminator who accidentally mutated and became an assassin for Shredder.
Verminator-X
Verminator-X is a mutant cyborg cat from the future. He was once Donatello's apprentice but became evil after adding too many cybernetics to his body.
Walkabout
Walkabout is a mutant kangaroo from Australia. He wears an eyepatch and is skilled in crocodile hunting. He became an ally of the Ninja Turtles.
Wyrm
Wyrm was originally a trashman who mutated into a mutant flatworm after falling into Shredder's trash bin.

Dimension X
Dimension X is a strange and dangerous alien dimension. It is home to many alien races, including Krang and the Triceratons. It often connects to Earth through portals.
