Kyle James Kozub Mooney, born on September 4, 1984, is a talented American comedian, actor, writer, and film director. He is well-known for being a cast member on the popular TV show Saturday Night Live from 2013 to 2022. In 2017, he helped write and starred in the movie Brigsby Bear. He also co-created and starred in the Netflix animated series Saturday Morning All Star Hits! which came out in 2021.

Early Life and Education
Kyle Mooney grew up in San Diego, California. He was the youngest of three boys. His mom, Linda, used to be a reporter. His dad, Brian, works as an environmental planner. Kyle has two older brothers, Sean and Ryan.
School Days
When Kyle was in middle school, his classmates voted him "most likely to become a television star." He graduated from Scripps Ranch High School in 2003. In high school, he won an award for Best Actor. He played Prospero in Shakespeare's play The Tempest. He was also known as the class clown.
College Experience
After high school, Kyle studied film at the University of Southern California. While there, he joined a college comedy group called Commedus Interruptus. He performed improv and sketch comedy with them. In 2003, after trying out for six weeks, Kyle, Beck Bennett, and Nick Rutherford became new members of the group. Kyle finished his studies at the USC School of Cinematic Arts in 2007.
Comedy Career
Good Neighbor Comedy Group
In 2007, Kyle Mooney, Beck Bennett, Nick Rutherford, and Dave McCary started a sketch comedy group. They called themselves Good Neighbor. They uploaded their funny videos to a YouTube channel called GoodNeighborStuff.
Later, in 2013, Beck Bennett and Dave McCary joined Saturday Night Live with Kyle. Beck became a performer, and Dave became a director. Nick Rutherford joined the show as a writer the next year. In 2014, Good Neighbor was listed as one of the Top 100 YouTube Channels.
Saturday Night Live
Kyle Mooney tried out for Saturday Night Live in 2012 but didn't get in that time. He tried again the next year and joined the cast for the show's 39th season. His first appearance as a featured player was on September 28, 2013. By the 41st season, Kyle became a main cast member.
He brought some of his popular YouTube characters to the show. These included his person-on-the-street interviews and characters like the 4/20 Weed-Smoking Guy. Other characters were Chris Fitzpatrick, Todd from Inside SoCal, and Bruce Chandling.
Kyle also did impressions of many famous people on Saturday Night Live. Some of these included Jim Acosta, Woody Allen, Jeff Bezos, Johnny Depp, Michael Jackson, Steve Jobs, and Steven Tyler. He left the show after nine seasons in 2022. Since then, he has made special guest appearances in sketches and on the Saturday Night Live 50th Anniversary Special.

Movies and TV Shows
Kyle Mooney has appeared on several other TV shows. These include Jimmy Kimmel Live! and Sports Show with Norm Macdonald. He has also worked as a writer and performer with the Upright Citizens Brigade comedy group.
In 2017, Kyle starred in and co-wrote the movie Brigsby Bear. The film first showed at the Sundance Film Festival. He wrote the movie with Kevin Costello. They got ideas from Kyle's own life and his love for 1980s children's TV shows. Dave McCary directed the film.
Kyle also co-created, wrote, and produced an animated comedy series for adults. It's called Saturday Morning All Star Hits! and was released on Netflix in December 2021. In the show, Kyle plays several characters, including twins Skip and Treybor. He also voices animated characters Randy and Brusho.
Directing and Music
Kyle directed a comedy movie called Y2K for A24. The movie premiered in March 2024 and was released in December 2024.
In March 2025, Kyle released his first music album. It's called The Real Me and he released it under the name Kyle M. The album was put out by an independent record label called Stones Throw.
Personal Life
In 2021, Kyle Mooney married actress Kate Lyn Sheil. In December 2023, Kyle shared that he and his wife had a daughter.
Kyle is a big collector. He has a large collection of VHS tapes that he started when he was a kid. Because of his work on SNL, he has been able to get some of his VHS tapes signed. For example, he has a Beetlejuice VHS signed by both Michael Keaton and Alec Baldwin.
