Kyle James Kozub Mooney (born September 4, 1984) is an American comedian, actor, and writer. He is famous for being a cast member on the TV show Saturday Night Live (SNL) from 2013 to 2022.
Kyle also co-wrote and starred in the 2017 movie Brigsby Bear. He helped create, write, produce, and star in the animated TV series Saturday Morning All Star Hits!. Before SNL, Kyle appeared on shows like Jimmy Kimmel Live!. He also worked as a writer and performer with the Upright Citizens Brigade.

Early life and education
Kyle Mooney was born in San Diego, California. He was the youngest of three boys. His mom, Linda, was a reporter. His dad, Brian, worked as an environmental consultant. Kyle has two older brothers, Sean and Ryan. He is left-handed and wears glasses.
When Kyle was in middle school, his class voted him "most likely to become a television star." He finished Scripps Ranch High School in 2003. There, he won an award for Best Actor in a play by William Shakespeare called The Tempest. He was also known as the class clown.
Kyle studied film at the University of Southern California. He joined a comedy group called Commedus Interruptus. In 2003, Kyle, Beck Bennett, and Nick Rutherford became new members of this group.
Kyle loves collecting things. He has a large collection of old VHS tapes. He started collecting them when he was a kid. While working on SNL, he got many of his VHS tapes signed by the actors who starred in the movies. For example, he has a Beetlejuice VHS signed by Michael Keaton and Alec Baldwin.
Comedy career
Good Neighbor comedy group
In 2007, Kyle Mooney, Beck Bennett, Nick Rutherford, and Dave McCary started a comedy group called Good Neighbor. They uploaded funny videos to their YouTube channel, GoodNeighborStuff.
Beck Bennett and Dave McCary joined Saturday Night Live with Kyle in 2013. Beck was a performer, and Dave was a director. Nick Rutherford became a writer for the show the next year. In 2014, Good Neighbor was listed among the Top 100 YouTube Channels.
Saturday Night Live (SNL)
Kyle Mooney tried out for Saturday Night Live in 2012 but didn't get in. He tried again the next year and joined the cast for the show's 39th season. His first appearance was on September 28, 2013. By the 41st season, Kyle became a main cast member.
He brought some of his popular YouTube characters to SNL. These included his "person-on-the-street" interviews, Chris Fitzpatrick, and Todd from Inside SoCal. He also played Bruce Chandling.
Kyle was known for his funny impressions of famous people on SNL. Some of these included Jim Acosta, Woody Allen, Johnny Depp, Michael Jackson, and Steve Jobs. He left the show after nine seasons in 2022. In 2024, he made guest appearances in a sketch called "Papyrus 2" and during Charli XCX's hosting debut.
Other projects
Kyle Mooney starred in and co-wrote the movie Brigsby Bear. It was shown for the first time in 2017 at the Sundance Film Festival. He wrote the movie with Kevin Costello. They got ideas from Kyle's own life and his love for 1980s children's TV shows. Dave McCary directed the film.
In December 2021, an animated comedy series called Saturday Morning All Star Hits! was released on Netflix. Kyle helped create, write, and produce it. He also voiced several characters. The show was directed by Dave McCary and animated by Ben Jones. Kyle and Ben made the show because they both loved Saturday-morning cartoons from the 1980s and 1990s.
On March 23, 2023, it was announced that Kyle would direct a comedy movie called Y2K for A24. The movie was first shown at the South by Southwest Festival in March 2024. It was released on December 6, 2024.
Personal life
In 2021, Kyle Mooney married actress Kate Lyn Sheil. In December 2023, Kyle shared that he and his wife had a daughter.
