Borders on Mosquito Range

The Tenmile Range is a cool group of mountains located in Colorado, USA. It's actually like one big mountain chain with the Mosquito Range. These two ranges are only separated by the Continental Divide, which is a high line that decides where water flows across the continent. The Tenmile Range is on the north side of this divide, and the Mosquito Range is on the south. Because they are so connected, people often call them the Tenmile-Mosquito Range.

This mountain range has more than a dozen peaks. Peak 1 is the most northern one. South of Peak 1, you'll find peaks numbered 2 through 10. The highest and most southern peak in the range is Quandary Peak, which stands tall at 14,271 feet.

The Tenmile Range is super famous for its skiing. You can find both backcountry adventures and popular resort areas here. The well-known Breckenridge Ski Resort is located right in this range!

You can also find Pacific Tarn in the Tenmile Range. This lake is believed to be the highest named lake in the entire United States!

Fun Facts About the Peaks

  • Peak 1 is the very first peak at the northern end of the range. It once had a ski jumping hill for the nearby town of Frisco!
  • The numbered peaks, from Peak 2 to Peak 10, are located south of Peak 1.
  • Some peaks, like Wheeler Peak and North Star Mountain, actually sit right on the Continental Divide. This means they are part of both the Tenmile and Mosquito Ranges!
  • Breckenridge Ski Resort covers the eastern sides of Peaks 6 through 10. You can even reach the tops of Peak 6 and Peak 8 using a chairlift! The Kensho SuperChair on Peak 6 takes you close to the summit, and the Imperial Express SuperChair on Peak 8 gets you very high up. From there, it's just a short hike to the true top of each peak.
