What is The Apprentice?
In The Apprentice, a group of 15 to 18 people compete for a big job. This job is usually worth US$250,000 and involves running one of Trump's companies.
How the Show Works
- In each episode, the contestants are split into two teams.
- Each team gets a special task to complete. This task could be anything from selling products, creating an advertisement, or even running a stall at an event.
- One team wins, usually because they made the most money or did the best job. The winning team often gets a prize.
- The losing team has to meet with the host, like Donald Trump, and explain what went wrong.
- At the end of almost every episode, the host says "You're fired!" to one or more people from the losing team. These people then leave the show.
- In the very last episode, called the season finale, the host says "You're hired!" to the person who wins the grand prize!
Different Versions of the Show
The American version of The Apprentice has had fifteen seasons.
- In the first six seasons and the tenth season, regular people competed on the show.
- From season seven onwards, and also in seasons eight, nine, and eleven to fifteen, the show featured celebrities. This version is called The Celebrity Apprentice.
- In The Celebrity Apprentice, famous people compete to win money for charities they support, instead of getting a job with Trump's companies.
Who Hosted the Show?
Donald Trump hosted The Apprentice until 2016, when he became President of the United States.
- The most recent season, which aired in 2017, had famous actor and former governor Arnold Schwarzenegger as the host.
- Even though Schwarzenegger was the host, Trump continued to be an important person behind the scenes, known as the executive producer.
- Schwarzenegger left the show after that season.
Many countries around the world have their own versions of The Apprentice. Each country has a different famous person in charge. For example, the version from the United Kingdom is hosted by Alan Sugar.
