The Boyz (Hangul: 더보이즈) is a popular South Korean boy group. They were first formed by Cre.ker Entertainment. The group currently has 11 members: Sangyeon, Jacob, Younghoon, Hyunjae, Juyeon, Kevin, New, Q, Ju Haknyeon, Sunwoo, and Eric.

The Boyz officially started their music journey on December 6, 2017. When they first debuted, there were 12 members. However, Hwall, a former member, left the group in October 2019 because of health issues.

History

Before They Debuted

In 2016 and early 2017, some of the members appeared in music videos for other artists. Kevin was first seen by the public on a TV show called Kpop Star 6. He also sang a song for a drama in April 2017. Sunwoo was on High School Rapper in January 2017. Ju Haknyeon took part in Produce 101 in March 2017 and made it to the final episode.

On July 4, 2017, the group was first announced as Cre.kerz. Their official name, The Boyz, was revealed on July 18. They had their first reality show, Flower Snack, from August to October. This show led to them releasing a song called "I'm Your Boy". They met 1,000 fans at their first fan meeting on October 28.

In November, all twelve members signed deals to be models for a school uniform brand and a makeup brand. On December 4, Cre.ker Entertainment shared that the group signed a contract with Sony Music for their activities in Japan.

First Years: 2017–2018

The Boyz officially debuted on December 6, 2017. They released their first mini-album, The First, with its main song "Boy". Their second reality show, The 100, aired from February to March 2018. They even held an online mini-concert on March 23. The Boyz performed at the 12th Asian Film Awards in Macau on March 17. This was their first time performing outside of Korea.

The group released their second mini-album, The Start, on April 3, 2018. Its main song was "Giddy Up". Hwall could not promote with the group at this time due to health problems. He had to take a break for three months.

On July 12, the twelve members released a special song called "Keeper". It was produced by Block B's Park Kyung. On July 24, they won their first "Rookie Award" at the Korea Brand Awards. This award is given to new artists.

The group also appeared on a TV show called Happy Arrived At Our House. This show helped raise awareness about abandoned dogs in Korea. The Boyz took care of two puppies until they found new homes.

On August 30, the group won another "Rookie Award" at the Soribada Best K-Music Awards. They made their comeback on September 5 with the single The Sphere and the song "Right Here".

On September 28, Q was announced as one of the main dancers of Hallyu. He joined other main dancers from groups like MONSTA X, GOT7, Seventeen, NCT, and NU'EST W.

The group released their third mini-album, The Only, on November 29, 2018. The main song was "No Air". On December 1, they won another "Best New Male Artist Award" at the 2018 Melon Music Awards.

2019: New Music and Hwall's Departure

The group released their second single album, Bloom Bloom, on April 29, 2019. The main song was also called "Bloom Bloom". On May 7, The Boyz won their first-ever music show award on SBS MTV's The Show. This was a big achievement for them!

The group released their fourth mini-album, Dreamlike, on August 19. Its main song was "D.D.D". On October 23, Hwall officially left the group. He had ongoing health issues and decided to focus on an acting career instead.

On November 6, The Boyz officially debuted in Japan. They released their first Japanese mini-album, Tattoo, with its main song "Tattoo". To celebrate their second anniversary, the group released a special song called "White (화이트)" on December 6. From December 11 to 20, the group went on a European tour called Dreamlike. They visited Berlin, Paris, London, and Amsterdam.

2020: First Full Album and Road to Kingdom

On February 10, 2020, the group released their first full studio album, Reveal. The main song was also called "Reveal".

On March 20, it was announced that The Boyz would join Mnet's TV competition show Road to Kingdom. On June 12, they released a new song called "Checkmate" for the show's finale. The group won the competition! This win earned them a spot in another big Mnet show called Kingdom.

On September 21, the group released their fifth mini-album, Chase. The main song was "The Stealer". During their promotions for "The Stealer", The Boyz won four music show awards. They won once on MBC's Show Champion, twice on Mnet's M Countdown, and once on SBS MTV's The Show.

At the 2020 Mnet Asian Music Awards, it was confirmed that The Boyz would join ATEEZ and Stray Kids on the first season of Kingdom. On December 7, the group released a special song called "Christmassy!" to celebrate their third anniversary.

2021–Present: Breaking Dawn

On January 12, 2021, The Boyz announced they would release their first Japanese studio album, Breaking Dawn, on March 17.
