The Muppet Movie: Original Soundtrack Recording is the music album from the 1979 film, The Muppet Movie. It features all the songs and some background music. These were written by Paul Williams and Kenneth Ascher.
The album first came out on a record (called an LP) in 1979. It was released by Atlantic Records in North America and CBS Records in other countries. The album became very popular, reaching number 32 on the Billboard 200 music chart. It also earned a Gold award from the Recording Industry Association of America, meaning it sold many copies!
This soundtrack won a Grammy Award for Best Children's Album in 1980. It was also nominated for other big awards. These included another Grammy, a Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song, and two Academy Awards. The song "Rainbow Connection" was nominated for Best Original Song and reached number 25 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
After its first release, the soundtrack was re-released on CD. Jim Henson Records put it out again in 1993. Then, Walt Disney Records re-released it on August 13, 2013. Disney's version was digitally improved to sound even better. It also included special notes from Paul Williams. This was the first time the soundtrack was available to buy in over 20 years!
