Chronology
Preceded by The Mysterious Cities of Gold (1982–83)

The Mysterious Cities of Gold (also known as Les Mystérieuses Cités d'Or in French) is an exciting animated series from France, Belgium, and Portugal. It's a follow-up to a popular TV show from 1982 with the same name. This series continues the amazing adventures of three young heroes as they search for the legendary Seven Cities of Gold. The fourth season of this adventure-filled show first aired in Switzerland.

Meet the Main Characters

The story follows a group of brave friends on their journey. Here are the main characters you'll meet:

Esteban: The Child of the Sun

  • Esteban is a 12-year-old orphan with a big dream for adventure. He was saved from a shipwreck as a baby by a Spanish sailor named Mendoza. Esteban wears a special sun medallion. People in Barcelona believe he can call out the sun, which is tricky because he's afraid of heights! He joins the search for the Cities of Gold, hoping to find his father.

Zia: The Inca Princess

  • Zia is the daughter of an Inca high priest. She was taken from her home in Peru when she was only seven years old. The Spanish invaders gave her as a gift to the Queen of Spain. Zia has a sun medallion similar to Esteban's, with a sun and moon design. She meets Esteban when she is kidnapped by Mendoza to help read ancient golden texts.

Tao: The Last of Mu

  • Tao is the last living person from the ancient, sunken empire of Mu. He lived alone on the Galápagos Islands after his father passed away. At first, he doesn't want to join the others when they arrive on his island. But when a special ship called the Solaris is found, he decides to join their quest.

Mendoza: The Mysterious Navigator

  • Mendoza is a skilled Spanish navigator who saved Esteban when he was a baby. He's an experienced sailor and a master with a sword, often taking charge. It's sometimes hard to tell where Mendoza's true loyalty lies. He's always looking for clues about the Mysterious Cities of Gold. He even has one of the sun medallions, which he kept safe after rescuing Esteban. Mendoza travels with two helpers, Sancho and Pedro.
