The Next Star was a popular Canadian TV show on YTV. It was a reality competition where young singers competed to become "the next star." The show looked for the most talented singer in Canada who was 15 years old or younger.
The show had two main hosts: Adamo Ruggiero hosted from 2008 to 2012, and Carlos Bustamante took over from 2013 to 2014. Many judges helped decide who was the best. Early judges included Suzie McNeil, Steve Cranwell, and Christopher Ward. Later, Keshia Chante, Mark Spicoluk, and Tara Oram joined the team. The show also had coaches for singing, dancing, clothes, and makeup to help the contestants.
The winners of The Next Star were:
- Dunnery Bond (Season 1)
- Tianda Flegal (Season 2)
- Diego Gomes (Season 3)
- Melissa "Charlie" Storwick (Season 4)
- Brooklyn Roebuck (Season 5)
- Alicia Moffet (Season 6)
- Jory Zechner (Season 7)
In 2013, YTV announced a spin-off show called The Next Star – Supergroups. This show was all about groups of singers performing together, not solo artists. The Next Star had its seventh and final season in 2014.
