The Mary River forms the western edge of Theebine. This river is an important natural feature of the area.

The main railway line, called the North Coast railway line, runs through Theebine. The Theebine railway station serves the town. Another railway line, the former Kingaroy railway line, used to branch off here. The Dickabram railway station is also in Theebine. It is located just before the famous Dickabram Bridge over the Mary River.

Kanyan is a small area in the north-east of Theebine. It got its name from an old railway station. The word Kanyan comes from the Kabi language word kanigan, which means daughter.

The Story of Theebine

Theebine started as a town because of the railway. It was a place where the Kingaroy line met the North Coast railway line. The Kingaroy to Theebine railway opened in December 1904. It was used to transport farm goods, other products, and people. It was one of the first branch railway lines built in Queensland.

The town was first called Kilkivan Junction. On May 23, 1910, the Railways Department changed its name to Theebine. The name Theebine comes from a Waka language word, dhil-bvain. This word refers to the Australian lungfish, a special type of fish.

The Theebine Hotel was built in 1909. It was first known as the Kilkivan Junction Hotel.

The Kilkivan Junction Provisional School opened in 1889. It became Kilkivan Junction State School in 1909. In 1910, its name changed to Theebine State School.

A church was built in Theebine in 1940. It was for both Presbyterian and Methodist church services. The building was 40 feet long and 24 feet wide. It had a wooden outside and a pine wood inside. It could seat 112 people. The church was also used for Anglican services. In 1977, it became the Theebine Uniting Church. Later, in 2000, it changed its name to the Theebine Community Church.

The Theebine Masonic Lodge, a local community group, opened in 1948.

The railway line from Theebine to Kingaroy officially closed in early 2010.
