Timothy Simon Roth (born May 14, 1961) is a famous English actor. He is known for playing many different kinds of characters in movies and TV shows. He was part of a group of talented British actors called the "Brit Pack" in the 1980s.

Roth first got noticed in TV shows like Made in Britain (1982) and Meantime (1983). His first movie, The Hit (1984), earned him a nomination for a special award for new actors. He became even more well-known for films such as The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover (1989) and Vincent & Theo (1990).

He has worked with director Quentin Tarantino on several popular films, including Reservoir Dogs (1992), Pulp Fiction (1994), and The Hateful Eight (2015). For his role in Rob Roy (1995), he won a BAFTA Award and was nominated for an Academy Award. Roth has also appeared in big movies like Planet of the Apes (2001) and Selma (2014).

More recently, he played Emil Blonsky / Abomination in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. You can see him in The Incredible Hulk (2008), Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021), and the Disney+ series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2022). He also starred in the TV series Lie to Me (2009–11) and Tin Star (2017–20).

Early Life and Education

Tim Roth was born in Dulwich, London, England, on May 14, 1961. His mother, Ann, was a painter and a teacher. His father, Ernie, was a journalist and also a painter. His father changed his last name to "Roth" for a special reason.

Tim Roth went to school in Lambeth and later attended Croydon Technical School and the Strand School. He was interested in becoming a sculptor and studied art at London's Camberwell College of Arts.

In the 1980s, Tim Roth starred in several TV films, including Made in Britain and Meantime. His first movie role in The Hit earned him an award for being a promising new actor. He was part of a group of young British actors known as the "Brit Pack."

In 1990, he played the famous painter Vincent van Gogh in the movie Vincent & Theo. He also played a character named Guildenstern in Rosencranten & Guildenstern Are Dead.

Roth became an international star after working with director Quentin Tarantino. Their movies together include Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, and Four Rooms. These films helped him become very well-known around the world.

He played Archibald Cunningham in the 1995 film Rob Roy. For this role, he won a BAFTA Award for Best Supporting Actor. He was also nominated for an Academy Award and a Golden Globe Award. Roth appeared in the musical film Everyone Says I Love You and The Legend of 1900. He also acted alongside Tupac Shakur in the movie Gridlock'd.

Tim Roth also directed his first film, The War Zone, in 1999. In 2001, he played the chimpanzee General Thade in Tim Burton's movie Planet of the Apes. He was even offered a role in the Harry Potter film series, but he turned it down.

Roth starred in the TV series Lie to Me as Cal Lightman, a character who is an expert at reading body language to help solve crimes. He also played Emil Blonsky / Abomination in The Incredible Hulk. The director of the film, Louis Leterrier, was a big fan of Roth's acting.

In 2012, he was chosen to be the head of the jury for a special section at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival. He played FIFA President Sepp Blatter in the film United Passions in 2014. Roth also appeared in the western film The Hateful Eight and had a small role in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

In 2017, Roth appeared in the third season of the TV show Twin Peaks. He also starred in the British crime drama Tin Star, which ran until 2020.

He returned to his role as Emil Blonsky / Abomination in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021) and the Disney+ series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2022). In 2022, Roth starred in the film Resurrection and the New Zealand sports drama Punch. In 2023, he appeared in the Australian drama series Last King of the Cross.

Personal Life

Tim Roth has a son named Jack, who was born in 1984 and is also an actor. Tim Roth married Nikki Butler in 1993. They have two sons, Timothy Hunter and Michael Cormac. Sadly, one of his sons, Cormac, passed away in 2022.

Roth has shown support for environmental causes and has expressed his political opinions on various topics.
