Tiny Tim facts for kids

Herbert Buckingham Khaury, known to the world as Tiny Tim, was a unique American singer and musician. He was born on April 12, 1932, and passed away on November 30, 1996. Tiny Tim became very popular in the late 1960s.
People loved watching him on television and listening to his songs. He often played the ukulele and sang in a very high, unusual voice called a falsetto. His most famous song was "Tiptoe Through the Tulips". He was especially remembered for his appearances on popular TV shows like Laugh-In and The Tonight Show. In 1969, his first wedding even happened live on The Tonight Show, suggested by the host Johnny Carson.
Tiny Tim's Music Career
Tiny Tim was more than just a performer; he was also very knowledgeable about music history. He studied American music from its earliest days and often performed old, historic songs in his shows. Over time, he started using his high falsetto voice less. Instead, he sang most of his songs in his natural, deeper voice, which is called a baritone.
When his fame as a "pop star" became less, he continued to perform. He played in smaller nightclubs and other venues, just as he had done before he became famous. In the 1980s, he even toured with a circus. He also appeared in a movie where he played a circus performer. In the 1990s, Tiny Tim recorded new music, including a Christmas album. He also joined comedian Pat Paulsen in his funny, pretend campaign to become President of the United States, acting as Paulsen's running mate.
Tiny Tim's Life
Tiny Tim was married three times. His last wife was a fan who met him while making a documentary about his life and career. Later in his life, one of his supporters was the radio talk show host Howard Stern. Tiny Tim died in 1996 after having a heart attack during a performance.
