Glenn Tobias Hysén (born 9 March 1982) is a Swedish former professional footballer. He played as a forward or a winger. Tobias started his career with Lundby IF in 1998. He then played for several teams, including BK Häcken, Djurgårdens IF, Sunderland, IFK Göteborg, and Shanghai SIPG. He retired from playing in 2018.
Tobias Hysén also played for the Swedish national team from 2005 to 2014. He played in 34 games and scored 10 goals. He also represented Sweden at the UEFA Euro 2012 tournament. Tobias is the son of famous former footballer Glenn Hysén.

Tobias Hysén was born in Gothenburg, Sweden. His mother, Kerstin, was a nurse. His father, Glenn Hysén, was a professional footballer for teams like Liverpool and IFK Göteborg. Tobias has a sister named Charlotte, who is three years younger.
When Tobias was young, his parents divorced. His father remarried and Tobias gained two half-brothers, Alexander and Anton, and a half-sister, Annie. Because of his father's football career, Tobias moved around a lot as a child. He lived in Gothenburg, Sweden, and Eindhoven, Netherlands.
Tobias Hysén's Club Career
Starting His Football Journey
Tobias Hysén began playing football at a young age. His first club was Ubbhult IF, where he played from 1986 to 1988. He then played for Lindholmens BK. In 1995, he joined Lundby IF and stayed there for four years.
Playing for BK Häcken
In 1999, Tobias signed with BK Häcken. He played for this team for five seasons, gaining valuable experience.
Time with Djurgårdens IF
Tobias moved to Djurgården in 2004. He signed a contract to play with them until 2008. During his time at Djurgården, he helped the team win Allsvenskan in 2005. Allsvenskan is the top football league in Sweden.
Tobias is left-footed. He started as a left-winger but sometimes played as a striker for Djurgården. Later, when he returned to Sweden and played for IFK Göteborg, he mostly played as a striker. However, he was often a winger for the national team.
Playing in England with Sunderland
On 23 August 2006, Tobias joined Sunderland in England. He quickly made an impact in his first game against West Bromwich Albion. He helped create a goal and played very well.
Tobias scored his first goal for Sunderland in a 1–1 draw against Leicester City. He scored again in a 2–0 win against Leicester on New Year's Day 2007. In July 2007, Tobias asked to move back to Sweden. He felt that he and his girlfriend had not settled well in Sunderland.
Returning to IFK Göteborg
On 25 August 2007, Tobias Hysén moved to IFK Göteborg. This was a special move because he became the fifth member of his family to play for the club. In 2009, he scored 18 goals, making him one of the top scorers in Allsvenskan. He shared this title with Brazilian player Wánderson do Carmo.
Tobias faced some minor injuries in 2010. Despite this, he still scored 10 goals that season. In 2011, he continued his strong scoring record, netting 16 goals in 29 games. This made him the second-best goal scorer in Allsvenskan that year.
Many people were surprised by Tobias's decision to stay with IFK Göteborg. In 2010, he turned down an offer from a top Belgian club, Club Brugge. Instead, he signed a new four-year deal with Göteborg.
Playing in China with Shanghai SIPG
In the winter of 2013–2014, Tobias Hysén signed a two-year contract with Chinese Super League team Shanghai Dongya. In his first season, he had a fantastic year, scoring 19 goals and making 10 assists in 28 matches. In April 2015, he extended his contract for another two years.
Back to IFK Göteborg and Retirement
On 26 January 2016, Tobias announced he would return to IFK Göteborg. He signed a three-year contract before the 2016 Allsvenskan season. At the end of the 2018 season, Tobias Hysén officially retired from professional football.
Tobias Hysén's International Career
Youth National Teams
Tobias started playing for Sweden's national youth teams in 2002. He played for Sweden's U21 team until 2004. In November 2003, he had a great game against Spain in a U-21 qualification match. Sweden won 3–1, which helped them qualify for the U21 Championships in Germany in 2004. He was part of the team that finished fourth in that tournament.
Playing for the Senior National Team
In January 2005, Tobias made his first appearance for the senior Swedish national team. This was in a friendly game against South Korea.
He was called up for Sweden's 2010 FIFA World Cup qualification game against Malta. Later, he played in some friendly games for the national team.
By 2011, and during the UEFA Euro 2012 qualifying games, Tobias was regularly called up by the new coach, Erik Hamrén. He played 7 games and scored 6 goals. Tobias represented Sweden at the Euro 2012 tournament.
On 15 October 2013, he scored two goals in a 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Germany. Sweden lost that game 3–5.
His last game for Sweden was his 34th international appearance. It was a friendly match against Estonia on 4 September 2014.
Tobias Hysén's Personal Life
Tobias Hysén is the son of former football star Glenn Hysén. Glenn played for famous clubs like IFK Göteborg, PSV Eindhoven, Fiorentina, and Liverpool.
Tobias lives in Göteborg with his longtime girlfriend, Maria Kaspersson, and their son, Lucas, who was born on 20 January 2008. He is also part of the Långaryd family, which is known as the largest documented family by the Guinness Book of Records.
In 2009, Tobias, his father, and two brothers wrote a blog for the newspaper Aftonbladet. They mostly wrote about football. Tobias is also the great-grandson of Erik Hysén.
