Early Life and Family
Tobias Hysén was born in Gothenburg, Sweden. His parents are Kerstin, a nurse, and Glenn Hysén, a well-known football player for clubs like Liverpool and IFK Göteborg.
Tobias has a sister named Charlotte, who is three years younger than him. His parents later divorced, and his father remarried. From his father's second marriage, Tobias has two half-brothers, Alexander and Anton, and a half-sister named Annie.
Because his father was a professional footballer, Tobias moved around a lot when he was young. Before his parents divorced, he lived in Gothenburg, Sweden, and Eindhoven, Netherlands.
Club Career Highlights
Tobias Hysén had a long and successful career playing for many different football clubs.
Starting Out
Tobias began playing football at a very young age. His first club was Ubbhult IF, where he played from 1986 to 1988. He then played for Lindholmens BK. In 1995, he joined Lundby IF and stayed there for four years.
BK Häcken
In 1999, Tobias signed with BK Häcken. He played for this team for five seasons, gaining valuable experience.
Playing for Djurgårdens IF
Tobias moved to Djurgården in 2004 and signed a contract until 2008. While playing for Djurgården, he helped the team win the Allsvenskan (the top Swedish football league) in 2005.
He is left-footed and started his career as a left-winger. However, at Djurgården, he sometimes played as a striker (a player who scores goals). Later in his career, especially when he returned to IFK Göteborg, he mostly played as a striker. For the national team, he was often used as a winger.
Time in England with Sunderland
On August 23, 2006, Tobias joined Sunderland, a club in England, for about £1.7 million. He made a great first impression in his first game against West Bromwich Albion, helping to create a goal.
He scored his first goal for Sunderland in a 1–1 draw against Leicester City. He also scored the first goal in Sunderland's 2–0 win at Leicester on New Year's Day 2007.
In July 2007, Tobias asked to move back to Sweden. He explained that he and his girlfriend had not really settled in Sunderland.
Returning to IFK Göteborg
On August 25, 2007, Hysén moved back to IFK Göteborg. This made him the fifth member of his family to play for the club. In 2009, he scored 18 goals, making him the top scorer in the Allsvenskan league, tied with Brazilian player Wánderson do Carmo.
Tobias faced some minor injuries in 2010, but he still managed to score 10 goals that season. In 2011, he continued his strong scoring, netting 16 goals in 29 games. This made him the second-best goal scorer in the Allsvenskan that year.
Many people were surprised by Tobias's decision to stay with IFK Göteborg. In 2010, he turned down an offer from a top Belgian club, Club Brugge. Instead, he signed a new four-year contract with Göteborg, showing his dedication to the team.
Playing in China for Shanghai SIPG
In the winter of 2013–2014, Hysén signed a two-year contract with Shanghai Dongya in the Chinese Super League. In his first season, he scored 19 goals and made 10 assists in 28 matches. In April 2015, he extended his contract for another two years.
Back to IFK Göteborg and Retirement
On January 26, 2016, Tobias Hysén announced he would return to IFK Göteborg on a three-year contract. He played for the club until the end of the 2018 season, when he officially retired from professional football.

In November 2003, Tobias had a fantastic performance against Spain in a U-21 qualification game. Sweden won 3–1, which helped them qualify for the U21 Championships in Germany in 2004. He was part of the Sweden U21 team that finished fourth in that tournament.

He was called up for Sweden's 2010 FIFA World Cup qualification game against Malta. Later, he played in a few friendly games for the national team.
From 2011, and during the UEFA Euro 2012 qualifying games, Tobias was regularly called up by the new national team coach, Erik Hamrén. He played 7 games and scored 6 goals during this period. Hysén also represented Sweden at the Euro 2012 tournament.
On October 15, 2013, he scored two goals in a 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Germany. Sweden lost the game 3–5, but his goals were notable.
