How the Mountain Got Its Name
The name "Tom Dick and Harry Mountain" has been used for a long time. People were calling it that as early as 1897. This was noted by Elijah "Lige" Coalman, who has a glacier named after him.
For a while, some people just called it "Tom Dick Mountain." But in 1969, a group called the United States Board on Geographic Names officially decided to add "Harry" to the name. This makes it a fun play on the common phrase "Tom, Dick and Harry", which means any three ordinary people. Because of its unique name, it's often listed among unusual place names in the world.
