Tom Wahl's is a popular chain of restaurants. They serve quick and tasty food, like burgers and fries. You can find them mostly around the Rochester, New York area and the Finger Lakes region. A big newspaper, USA Today, even called them one of the best burger places in the whole USA back in 2010!
Tom Wahl's is famous for its special "ground steak sandwiches." They also have their own delicious root beer. You can also enjoy Abbott's Frozen Custard there, which is a yummy frozen dessert.
The Story of Tom Wahl's
The very first Tom Wahl's restaurant opened a long time ago. It was started by a person named Tom Wahl, Sr. He opened his first restaurant in March 1955. This first location was in a small place called Avon, New York.
What Tom Wahl's is Like
In 1986, the Tom Wahl's restaurant chain was sold. It was bought by another company called Bill Gray's. During this time, they tried a new type of restaurant. It was called Wahl Street and had a fancier feel. This new idea lasted only a few years. After that, Tom Wahl's went back to its classic diner style.
You might have heard of the famous actor Mark Wahlberg. In 2011, a group that included Mark Wahlberg and his brothers got permission from Tom Wahl's. They wanted to use a similar name, "Wahlburger," for their own restaurant chain. This is how the Wahlburgers restaurant started.
Today, there are seven Tom Wahl's restaurants. You can find them in these towns:
- Avon, New York
- Bushnell's Basin, New York
- Canandaigua, New York
- Newark, New York
- Fairport, New York
- Brighton, New York
- Greece, New York
Tom Wahl's used to have locations inside some big shopping malls. These included the Mall at Greece Ridge, the Marketplace Mall, and Eastview Mall. However, those mall locations closed down by 2021.
