A Possible Capital City?

Did you know Tooma was almost Australia's capital city? In 1900, it was one of ten places considered for the national capital. It was one of the last places to be removed from the list.

In October 1908, politicians voted on where the capital should be. Tooma was one of eleven places still being considered. It stayed in the running until almost the very end. In the end, only Dalgety and the chosen site, 'Yass Canberra', remained. The exact spot considered near Tooma was at Welaregang.

Tooma's Weather

The weather in Tooma is similar to a nearby place called Khancoban. Summers are usually hot and dry. Winters are cool and wet, and sometimes it even snows!
