In October 1908, politicians voted on where the capital should be. Tooma was one of eleven places still being considered. It stayed in the running until almost the very end. In the end, only Dalgety and the chosen site, 'Yass Canberra', remained. The exact spot considered near Tooma was at Welaregang.
