Khancoban (/kænˈkoʊbən/) is a small town in New South Wales, Australia. It is located in the Snowy Valleys Council area. The town sits at the foot of the Snowy Mountains, close to the Murray River. Khancoban is about 567 kilometres (352 miles) southwest of Sydney, the state capital. It is also only 13 kilometres (8 miles) from the border with Victoria. In 2016, about 304 people lived in Khancoban. The Khancoban Post Office first opened on November 7, 1876.

The Snowy Mountains Scheme was a huge plan to create hydro-electric power. This means using water to make electricity. The project also aimed to provide water for irrigation. Irrigation helps farmers water their crops in dry areas. This massive scheme helped bring power and water to large parts of Australia. Today, many people in Khancoban still work for Snowy Hydro Limited. They help run power stations like Murray 1 and Murray 2.
