Tower Mountain is a cool peak in the Taconic Mountains of western Massachusetts. It stands about 2,193 feet (668 meters) tall. This mountain is part of the beautiful Pittsfield State Forest.

You can explore Tower Mountain on two main trails. The Taconic Crest Trail is a long hiking path, about 35 miles (56 kilometers) long. There's also the Taconic Skyline Trail, which is about 12.1 miles (19.5 kilometers) long and can be used for different activities.

The very top of Tower Mountain has some open spots. From these spots, you can see amazing views, especially towards the west. The rest of the mountain is covered in thick forests. These forests are full of trees like maple, birch, and beech, which are common in northern areas.

Where is Tower Mountain?

Tower Mountain is found in a town called Hancock, Massachusetts. It shares its top ridge with another mountain, Pine Mountain, which is to the east. To the south, you'll find Smith Mountain along the same ridge. Berry Mountain is located to the north.

Across the Wyomanock Creek valley to the west, there's a place called West Hill. Just below the top of Tower Mountain, on the northeast side, is a special wet area called Tilden Swamp. It's a type of wetland known as a highland bog.

Water Flow from the Mountain

Water from the west side of Tower Mountain flows into Wyomanock Creek. This creek then joins Kinderhook Creek. From there, the water travels into the mighty Hudson River. Finally, it reaches the Long Island Sound in the ocean.

On the east side of the mountain, water drains into smaller streams like Smith Brook and Parker Brook. These streams eventually flow into Onota Lake. From Onota Lake, the water makes its way into the Housatonic River. Like the west side, the Housatonic River also empties into the Long Island Sound.
