Trace Dempsey Cyrus (born Neil Timothy Helson on February 24, 1989) is an American musician. He is known for being the son of country music star Billy Ray Cyrus. He is also the brother of famous singers Miley Cyrus and Noah Cyrus. Trace was the backing singer and guitarist for the band Metro Station. Later, in 2010, he started singing and playing guitar for the pop rock band Ashland HIGH.

Early Life and Family
Trace Cyrus was born in Ashland, Kentucky on February 24, 1989. His birth name was Neil Timothy Helson. His mother is Leticia "Tish" Cyrus. When he was four years old, he was adopted by Billy Ray Cyrus. Billy Ray is his mother's second husband. After being adopted, his name was legally changed to Trace Dempsey Cyrus.
Trace often spent his school breaks traveling and performing with Billy Ray. He has a younger sister, Miley Cyrus, who became famous on the Disney Channel show Hannah Montana. In 2008, Trace and Miley even recorded a song together. In 2006, Trace started working at a shopping mall in Burbank, California. He also decided to leave La Cañada High School that year.
Music Career
2006–2010: Metro Station Success
In 2006, Trace Cyrus helped write a song called "Country Music Has the Blues." This song was on Billy Ray's album Wanna Be Your Joe. It featured famous singers Loretta Lynn and George Jones.
Also in 2006, Trace started a pop-rock band called Metro Station. He formed the band with Mason Musso. Mason is the brother of Mitchel Musso, who was also on Hannah Montana. Trace played guitar and sang for the band. Columbia Records signed the band after seeing their page on MySpace.
Metro Station released their first album, Metro Station, on September 18, 2007. This album reached number 39 on the Billboard 200 chart. Their popular song, "Shake It", came out in April 2008. It reached number ten on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Trace left Metro Station in early 2010. After leaving, he announced he would start a new band and release his own music.
In 2008, Trace was featured on a song called "Hovering." This song was on the special edition of Miley's album, Breakout. He also appeared in the music video for Billy Ray's song "Somebody Said a Prayer" that same year. In 2010, he was featured in the song "Alive" for Billy Ray's band, Brother Clyde.
2010–2017, 2019–2020: Ashland HIGH and Return to Metro Station
In early 2010, Trace Cyrus started a pop band called Ashland HIGH. On January 1, 2012, he released his first album with Ashland HIGH, called Geronimo. It was available for free download. He recorded the album at his home in Los Angeles. He worked with producers from Canada and finished the album in just nine days.
On January 3, 2012, Trace released a music video for his first song, "Jealous Lover." The band performed live for the first time on February 24 in Anaheim. In March 2012, Ashland HIGH went on a tour across the US with Breathe Carolina and the Ready Set. Trace also performed at The Bamboozle festival in May 2012.
In July 2012, Trace released the music video for "Sippin' on Sunshine." His sister Miley appeared in this video. He also recorded a song with Miley called "Shot in the Dark." However, he decided not to release it. He said he wanted to have his own success first. As of 2013, Ashland HIGH had released two albums: Geronimo and Drugstore Cowboy. In 2013, he was featured in a remix of the song "Dat Boi" by Millionaires.
In August 2014, Trace Cyrus rejoined Metro Station. They released an EP (a shorter album) called Gold on October 14, 2014. The band then released their second full album, Savior, on June 30, 2015. They toured with other bands like Never Shout Never and Falling in Reverse from 2015 to 2016. Metro Station broke up in 2017 after their 10-Year Anniversary tour. However, they got back together in 2019. They released a song called "I Hate Society" in 2020.
2017–Present: Solo Music
In 2017, Trace Cyrus started releasing music on his own. His first solo song was "Lights Out" that year. On February 14, 2018, he released the song "Brenda." This song is about his former fiancée, actress Brenda Song. He released his first EP, Killing the Pain, on September 24, 2021.
In 2022, he released the song "Pray at Night." He also shared that he was finishing his first solo album. On June 28, 2024, Trace returned to music with a new song called "Cowgirl Ride." This song showed a new country music style for him. He released another song, "On the Run." In January 2025, he announced that a new album would be coming out later in the year.
Personal Life
From 2010 to 2017, Trace Cyrus had an on-and-off relationship with actress Brenda Song. They were engaged in 2011.
Trace has many tattoos. In 2012, he showed some of his tattoos for PETA's "Ink Not Mink" campaign. This campaign encourages people not to wear fur.
